I have a variety of different work experiences, but find that I can be of best help those who are working on their recovery from substance abuse, those who struggle with self-esteem and improving personal view of their own life, those who want to learn how to better cope with their depression and anxiety, and those who want to start planning.
In the midst of these trying times, we have found a greater need for mental health and therapy as a whole. I believe that we all have the skills within us to figure out the solutions to our problems, sometimes we need an extra ear, or another voice, that helps us find our answers. My goal is to be that person for you, to help you find out the best way to help yourself. My goal is the make your therapeutic experience feel safe and welcoming, while also providing you with positive encouragement that helps you find your own solutions for your goals.

Specialty Training: Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery/Dual Diagnosis, Depression & Anxiety, Trauma and PTSD, Sexual Compulsivity, Eating Disorders, Women's Issues and Gambling and Spending Addictions.
I believe the job of therapy is to challenge, empower and support people so the highest quality of life is possible. The term "quality of life" is often used to describe the goal for "end of life" issues. The goal can be the highest quality of life for anyone at any age. Living in the crisis of extreme emotional pain, instability, addiction or extended grief is perhaps the lowest quality of life. To some, this state may seem like "all there is" or "normal" based on their past experience. Therapy can teach a new way to live.

I began my education in the mental health field and spent my initial years training with great counselors and working at all levels of treatment. I have worked with adults, adolescents and young adults. After many years of working for other treatment providers I made the decision in 2009 to open my own practice. In addition to my private practice, I co-host a podcast called Life, Lived Better and work with Foundation 45 an incredible non-profit organization in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that assists individuals with suicide prevention, addiction and mental health awareness.

Are you overwhelmed? Is stress and worry impacting your life? How are you sleeping? Do past hurts, traumas, and broken relationships keep you woke at night? Are you misunderstood and judged, is your best not good enough? Do you long for relief from the pain of a broken heart? Well carrying the weight of unresolved issues has a negative impact on your present and your future. The hurt that's embedded deep in your heart may manifest in many ways such as anger, depression, isolation, anxiety, broken relationships, poor parenting, eating disorders, substance abuse, and much more. It's okay to seek help you're not weak; you're human.

If you're considering therapy you may be struggling with a major life change or a relationship issue; possibly depression, anxiety or substance abuse has been sabotaging your life. I'd use my first session with you to do an assessment, find out what you want to focus on and let you know how I think I can help. Sometimes clients are focused on a particular problem or decision, other clients want help identifying and combating old assumptions or unhealthy patterns of behavior that may be getting in their way.

I specialize in relationship recovery, spiritual recovery, addiction recovery and adult and childhood trauma recovery.
Intimacy is often impeded by an inability to know your self or to see yourself accurately. Often we loose that sense of self in relationships which then promotes agitation and depression. We then take on addictive behaviors to avoid feeling reality. Difficulties in childhood often does not equip us with the skills of boundaries which is the only thing that helps to maintain a sense of who we are while remaining connected in a relationship. I can help you develop the skills of being relational and still be you.

Hello! I've been a therapist in Dallas for more than twenty years, and in that time, I've helped hundreds of people overcome the obstacles that stood in the way of their happiness. These issues include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, substance abuse, and trauma-related issues, among others. I believe the strongest tool a therapist has is a caring, honest therapeutic relationship with the client. If you are ready to take a positive step in finding fulfillment, then I'm ready to help.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
