I use evidence based treatments (CBT, ACT, and the Gottman method) shown to produce results in therapy.
Therapy is a very personal experience. From managing emotions, to coping with life stressors, to improving relationships, each person has their own reason for wanting to begin therapy. I work with each client to identify specific changes they want to make and find the tools to make them. My focus is to consider your individual situation first, working collaboratively to reach the goals you choose. There are many ways therapy can be helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed. I can provide a calm place as you learn to cope with difficult feelings. Call if you are ready to make changes.

My therapeutic approach is integrative using methods such as: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma FocusedCBT, Client-Centered, Attachment Theory, Play Therapy, & Family Systems.
Life is a journey and everyone's trial and tribulations are different. In life, it is inevitable that change occurs and that can be an overwhelming venture to embark on alone. I can be a tool and a resource for you during your time of need. I am passionate about helping others; it is a calling in my life. As Elisabeth Kubler-Ross stated, "Beautiful people do not just happen." Ross's statement has always sparked a fire within me, as I know from personal and professional experience that strength comes from within and growth comes from pain, sometimes we just need a little help.

I work with adults and adolescents who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety and depression, or who are adapting to life challenges. You may feel that you're missing the immediacy and vitality of your life because your energy is sinking into habits of overthinking, arguing with yourself, and struggling with your emotions. You think there might be an easier way, but you're not sure how to begin un-learning years of self-blame and criticism. My focus is to provide quality, results oriented counseling services to individuals, families and couples.

Are you a woman who is at a crossroads in your life, feeling like something is missing, but you can’t quite put your finger on it? You’re ambitious and want more out of life, but you feel you have reached a point of stagnation and don’t know where to go from here. Despite achieving certain personal or professional milestones, you are left feeling unfulfilled and questioning whether you are on the right path. Maybe a big life change—a breakup, job change, change in family dynamic, or a move—has highlighted the fact that you’re still not as happy as you want to be and your old ways of coping aren’t as effective as they used to be.

Although my expertise covers a wide range of mental health areas, my focus has been on adolescents and families experiencing problems with adapting to life challenges. I have often worked with children and adolescents on couples and families on relationship issues and life transitions. Relationships grow and evolve as individuals move to different stages of life. Maintaining healthy relationships during times of change requires focused attention on individual and family systems needs. Life goals and long term aspirations can be distorted by near term priorities.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
