Through my education and experience, I have learned that people are truly doing the best they can at all times. Life can be so difficult, and we as humans are tasked with the complex job of navigating those difficulties. I utilize a multi-dimensional, trauma-informed, and attachment-based approach to help clients understand themselves, others, and their place in the world. However, when working with anyone, my goal is to give you tools, skills, and support to help you navigate the world outside of therapy. You deserve to feel safe, seen, heard, and understood.

I believe that the key to living a happier life is gaining a better understanding of yourself and the important relationships in your life. I believe that the reflection which happens inside the therapeutic alliance helps to lessen undesirable symptoms such as anxiety and depression. People come to therapy for a variety of reasons, but most people who make it to my office come because they have been suffering in some way. Therapy is a collaborative experience in which I help my clients to understand core struggles which cause pain and suffering in their lives.

Most enter into therapy feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, and/or not good enough. It is painful and frustrating to not feel in control of your emotions. Negative thoughts make it hard to feel good about yourself, your relationships, and your outlook on life. I take a compassionate, warm, and direct approach by guiding clients past traditional talk therapy toward inner healing by utilizing evidenced-based modalities including EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Do you feel stuck and frustrated in your relationship? The more you try to talk, the more you get caught in cycles of distance, tension and frustration? Partners often come into therapy thinking to themselves: I can't get it right in this relationship. No matter how hard I try I seem to make things worse between us. Partner's also report feeling: I can't talk to my partner. They get too angry and defensive. Almost immediately we get stuck in blame and defensiveness. We feel so far apart and distant. Still other couples report feeling stuck is isolating silence and tension where talking about "us" is strained and avoided.

You may be able to manage your day to day tasks, but something is holding you back from your full potential. Over time, you have developed limiting beliefs about yourself. This may impact your job performance, parental duties, and/or relationships. You have difficulty managing your thoughts and emotions. Maybe you have signs of high functioning anxiety or depression. Either way, awareness is always the first step to change! I believe life is a process, and at times people need a safe place to explore their thoughts and feelings.

Welcome! Life can often feel challenging - I strive to help restore hope for adults, children, and adolescents who may be going through a difficult time. Parenting a child or adolescent who is struggling can feel especially overwhelming and exhausting. Does your child or teen struggle with behavioral or academic challenges? Or maybe you are concerned they are showing signs of depressed mood, anxiety, increased irritability, or difficulties paying attention and staying organized. Parenting is one of the most important things that we will do in our lives, yet much of the information available to parents is conflicting or confusing.

Hi, I’m Brittany! I work with women and families looking to recover from traumatic experiences, heal relational wounds, and navigate challenging family dynamics or life transitions. If you relate to any of the above, you know that life can feel like you are not in the drivers seat. I am passionate about creating a space for my clients to reclaim their autonomy and walk away feeling empowered to live the life they want (yes, it’s possible!) My goal is for my clients to feel deeply seen as we make sense of their experiences, inner world, and relationships.

I work with individuals, teens, and preteens who have experienced trauma or are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief or loss and desire to find relief through a supportive therapeutic relationship. I compassionately understand the weight of distress you may be carrying and consider it a privilege to hear your story and speak into your life. I sit with you knowing firsthand the desire to experience change, but not always knowing the path to take. It takes courage and humility to reach out for help. My goal is for you to find a safe environment to explore new thoughts and ideas that change the outlook of your life.

I work from a strengths and integrated perspective focusing on the whole person: mind, body and spirit. Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
