Whatever you have been through, wherever you are right now, I would love to meet you in that place and work with you towards healing! I am practicing at Family Restoration Counseling- out of our Forney and Dallas locations.
Life can be challenging, frustrating, dark, disappointing, chaotic and really difficult to navigate. It is so easy to lose sight of one’s inner strength, resiliency, worth, tools and resources. What do you do when you find yourself in places like these? Take a deep breath and take the first step which I understand can be the hardest part! My name is Sarah and I would be honored to partner with and walk alongside you on your mental health journey! My goal is to help you find the answers, insights and healing you have been searching for.

A good therapist should help you become stronger and much more self-aware. Some counselors are experts in relationships and understand the dynamics of our interactions with others. Relationship counselors help in intimate relationships with a partner or spouse, other family members, and even people within your professional working world. Counselors have experience in particular areas, such as addiction management, anger management, adjusting to life changes, conflict reduction and management, developing higher levels of emotional intelligence, grief and loss, healing and forgiveness, spiritual development, and much more.

I do so with an integration of therapeutic modalities like Internal Family Systems, CBT, Structural Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.
Not only are we individuals with our own thoughts, feelings and experiences, we are part of a more complex network of family, culture and community. That looks different for everyone! Learning how to navigate and nurture our personal development is crucial, and understanding ourselves within the greater context of our relationships remains equally important in setting one up to thrive and grow.

I am laser-focused on you and your relationships: with yourself, with significant others, and with family.
Relationships can be difficult. We long for meaningful connection, understanding, and support from our closest relationships. But sometimes, we find conflict and alienation instead. Perhaps an "Other" has taken your place in a relationship-pornography, a physical affair, an addiction. Maybe dysfunction has spread throughout your family, building high walls between you and your loved ones. Perhaps your greatest struggle is relating not to others...but to yourself. You become vaguely aware that something is wrong. Something foundational has cracked. Feeling lost, you wonder how life led you to this deeply uncomfortable place.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
