My approach to therapy is strength-based, person-centered, and solution-oriented.
I am a nationally-recognized bilingual licensed professional counselor who specializes in healing depression and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, building self-worth and self-esteem, developing social skills, resolving adolescent behavior concerns, and helping overcome pornography and addictions. I have a passion for the great outdoors and love camping, back-packing, canoeing, and rock-climbing; but I frequently encounter unforeseen challenges as I free-climb through life. As we are all exposed to the elements of life unexpectedly, I strive to help secure an anchor of hope, and bring support and understanding to your personal journey.

Becoming a mother is a huge, complicated life transition. You’re exhausted, but you can’t sleep. You love your baby, but it’s hard to like someone who screams at you all day. You need help, but you don’t know who to ask or what to ask for. Finding support and taking care of yourself is a great first step – healthy parents grow healthy families. Therapy is a safe place to sort through your scary thoughts and tap into your inner strengths and resources.

If you are neurodivergent (have ADHD, ASD, C-PTSD, SPD etc.) and want to work with someone who truly understands, I'm the right therapist for you. I know the struggle of feeling overstimulated, overloaded, and overwhelmed. Maybe you have often felt misunderstood and unsupported. It's likely you have been through adverse childhood experiences that have continued to affect you. Maybe life has felt more challenging for you than for others. You're not alone. You just need someone who gets it and has the right tools for you.

You're an empath, a highly sensitive person, HSP. The truth is, it's not your sensitivity that's hard to deal with—it's relationships. Especially figuring out your own needs beyond being useful to others. As an HSP, you probably put others' needs before your own from a young age. Adults praised you for your "maturity," and your friends liked you for your selflessness. You're burnt out, secretly resentful, and feeling depressed. You would have never thought those could be symptoms of "trauma." Now, you're ready to find a path where you can expand your energy instead of sacrificing it.

As a trauma focused and relational therapist, my goal is to help you heal from grief and trauma, integrate your story into your "new normal," limit your past's influence on your present, and lead a life that feels meaningful to you. "Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” - Brené Brown

As a therapist I believe the individuals I work with are the experts in their lives. I create a therapeutic space that renders mutual respect and honors personal decision-making. Regardless of the situations or life experiences that bring you to me, I believe you will find the answers within you as I help nurture and guide you. Therapy can be long-term or short-term based on your individual needs. I believe in goal-oriented therapy. I enjoy providing individuals and families concrete evidence-based tools that they can take with them, and incorporate in their lives long after their participation in therapeutic services.

I enjoy working with clients who may feel alienated in some way. You may be a person suffering from grief from pet loss, miscarriage, or any other unacknowledged loss. You may be the parent of a child receiving special education services feeling judged. You may be having difficulty in your marriage. You may be part of the LGBTQ+ community. You may have suffered from a mood disorder or substance use disorder. You may carry shame from trauma you experienced. My ideal client wants to learn skills to alleviate their suffering, and that may start with trusting someone enough to confide in them.

You feel stuck and ready for a change. Maybe you’re tired of feeling stressed and anxious. Perhaps your loved ones have noticed your panic, irritability, or how you talk badly about yourself. You might be having a tough time concentrating or enjoying activities like you used to. Maybe you've been called a "people pleaser" and know you should stand up for yourself, but you don’t know how. And maybe, you’re terrified of rocking the boat. You're stuck in a cycle of unhelpful and unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. The things that normally take your mind off aren't working anymore. You're ready to break free and make a change.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
