You catch yourself repeating “it’ll get better, it’ll pass,” but it hasn’t. You’re hoping the tension in your chest, your sweaty palms, and your clenched jaw will finally stop but nothing has changed. You think, “I can just handle it on my own”. Googling “stress”, “overwhelmed”, and “anxiety”, brings more questions than answers. What would actually work to help me find relief? After a few tries, you realize deep breathing isn’t enough. You realize it’s more challenging than you thought. You don’t have to figure it out on your own. You don’t have to feel this way forever.

Welcome! Therapy is an important form of self-care. Anxiety, depression, grief & loss, life transitions, and relationship conflicts are often issues that lead people to seek a counselor. Or sometimes a person has experienced an upsetting or even life-threatening event. For twenty years I have assisted individuals, couples, and families in working through these and other concerns. While many may encounter similar difficulties, each person is unique, and your strengths, intuition, and creativity are key in your movement toward well-being.

I specialize in treating anxiety and unresolved trauma for survivors of abuse, crime, assault, attachment trauma, and complex grief.
Seeking out therapy can be both a difficult and rewarding choice. Often clients come in with problems that are incredibly painful, stressful, and frightening. After working through their issues, clients are often surprised to find they have gained deep insight, compassion, joy, and wisdom for themselves and others. They often look back at their suffering and can view it as the "best problem of their life." I find turning difficult life circumstances into this best problem focus is the goal of therapy for many of my clients.

Hi, if you're like many of my clients, you're hoping to find a therapist who has worked with your kind of worries before, will listen without passing judgement and can offer a safe place to process as well as get some concrete tools to help you feel better. My clients often describe struggling with communication or compromise in relationships, hurting from a big loss, frustration with their kid's problems, feeling anxious, or having a hard time at work. Most of my clients want a therapist who is warm, authentic, can explain the "why" behind their "what" and is willing to engage, not just observe.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
