It’s time to overcome constant worry, exhaustion, and ruminating on all the “worst case scenarios” that seem inevitable.
You catch yourself repeating “it’ll get better, it’ll pass,” but it hasn’t. You’re hoping the tension in your chest, your sweaty palms, and your clenched jaw will finally stop but nothing has changed. You think, “I can just handle it on my own”. Googling “stress”, “overwhelmed”, and “ anxiety”, brings more questions than answers. What would actually work to help me find relief? After a few tries, you realize deep breathing isn’t enough. You realize it’s more challenging than you thought. You don’t have to figure it out on your own. You don’t have to feel this way forever.

My work includes self harm, eating disorders, alternative lifestyles, sexual identity issues, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety.
I have been working with Young Adults (age 18 and older), predominantly female or gender queer, for about 19 years now and I love it. My goal in therapy is to help you get through the difficulties life brings your way. By providing a nurturing, comfortable environment, it allows you to relax and trust me and the counseling process. My positive, strength-building style of counseling means that I listen to you, understand what you are going through, see the strengths and positive parts, and set goals for what is not working. We will work together to figure it out.

I am a psychotherapist who has been in private practice and treatment centers for over thirty years. In my early years I worked with teens/young adults and their families in residential treatment settings. In my private practice I work mostly with adults, individually and couples. However I will work with teens who have a desire to make a positive shift in their life. My focus is to help the client make changes in patterns they believe are self defeating. My mission is to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies and foster personal growth.

If you struggle to trust yourself and know what to do with life stressors, especially interpersonal ones, then I can guide and facilitate the process of identifying and using the strengths, capabilities and resources you already possess to respond to these stressors. Having gone through my own healing with internalize stigma and understanding of cultural implications of having a mental health condition I have the empathy to navigate how to work with and not against mental health symptoms. I desire for individuals to courageously live out their authentic, genuine self.

I can offer you an objective view to help make sense of the "bigger picture" and provide coping skills to feel less anxious.
More and more I see women who are truly "doing it all" They might work full time, take care of the kids, and manage the house while dealing with a partner who doesn't appreciate how hard it is to live up to almost impossible standards. Sometimes it's stay at home moms who do a ton of work but don't feel appreciated for all that they do and feel isolated from others. I also see so much Anxiety. It seems as if Covid brought everyone's anxiety out of hiding. Things that we never worried about before are now overwhelming. Social Anxiety is also increasing due Covid related isolation. You are not alone with these feelings.

My experience is with a broad range of issues including depression (suicidal ideation), generalized & social anxiety, eating disorders, low self-esteem & relationship struggles.

I focus on using person-centered therapy, which allows you to dive deeper into your internal world, helping you to make better sense of yourself. Therapy has the potential to enhance your self-awareness so that you can figure out new and creative ways of being in your life.

As an experienced anxiety therapist, I have helped many women let go of expectations and barriers blocking them from living a more grounded, calm life.
Do you find yourself overthinking to the point of chronic anxiety or inaction? Have you been working hard to accomplish the things you're "supposed to" but don't feel the happiness or contentment you thought you would? At some point you realized you lost sight of who you are in the pursuit of perfection. You're tired from trying to keep up with the expectations that have been placed you, leaving you unfulfilled and anxious. Mostly, you want to find relief and regain control of your life. Let's figure out a way to make sense of the negative thoughts taking up space in your head, and make more room to connect with yourself and others.

With over 6 years helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, and 20 years working with athletes, I can help.
Despite working hard and achieving goals, life is hard. When my clients first come in, they are frustrated things aren’t going the way they would like. You know life can be better but nothing seems to be improving, even with hard work. You feel like you’re failing, and your confidence is tanking. You worry that your problems aren’t important enough and have thought that people like you don’t ask for help. Or maybe you're in constant pain and no doctor has been able to provide you with any relief. You feel stuck. You may even feel like you deserve to suffer. Feeling alone and discouraged is hard.

My focus is to be a safe and warm presence for you to process and make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With empathy and gentleness, I allow clients to take the lead in their own healing process, while offering guidance and perspective so that you can be the best version of yourself. As a counselor, it is an honor to sit with people in the midst of this messy life, human to human, as hope and healing come alive. To me, there is no greater privilege.

Some have names like depression, anxiety, trauma.
We work with people, not labels. It’s about you, a person. And us, people. It becomes about us working together for your goals, whatever those are-we can help. Are you surprised when you feel something but it “doesn’t make sense”? Do you then “should” & judge yourself? We all waste a helluva lot of time doing this. How often have you tried to think yourself out of a feeling? Right? Doesn't work! Together we can figure out how & why you think, feel & behave the way you do. You can't think your way out of feeling unhappy & dissatisfied. We can help you work through your barriers to a better place.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
