Have you spent your life thinking that who you are is fundamentally "wrong", perhaps due to being neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, or raised in a restrictive religious environment? Do you feel empty and alone, just "going through the motions"? Struggling with shame, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues rooted in trauma? These valid struggles can make an authentic life seem unattainable, but addressing them can turn hopes for a better life into reality.

Whether you are a trauma survivor, a family member or friend of a survivor, or a professional dealing with vicarious or personal trauma, I'm here to help.
No one gets to adulthood without living through painful experiences. You may be feeling the effects of a single traumatic incident (sexual victimization, a tragic natural disaster, or the sudden loss of a dear one), or you may be struggling with the weight of years of hurtful events. The term " trauma" seems like a buzzword these days, but for some of us, trauma has deeply influenced our lives. When we experience suffering, we can feel like it becomes our identity. But it doesn't have to be that way. Healing from trauma -- single incident or multiple events -- is possible.

Is decision-making stressful for you? Do you often second-guess your gut instincts? According to Dr. Gabor Mate, the first impact of trauma is the separation from the self. Another way trauma disrupts our lives is that it causes disconnection from other people. We move through the world with mistrust and isolation. Isolation is lonely and painful. I work with individuals and couples impacted by trauma, disruptive thoughts, and anxiety.

As a trauma therapist with comprehensive training from The Family Institute at Northwestern University and a background in mind-body science, I help clients who seek meaningful change, in both brief/intensive treatment and/or ongoing therapy. EMDR Intensives are for those ready to move beyond distressing experiences. These longer (but fewer) sessions allow for highly concentrated treatment. Participants report increased emotional tolerance and that this focused work has allowed them to experience progress and relief sooner and more efficiently.

I am here to listen and help you achieve healing from painful and traumatic experiences, loss, grief, and confusion.
Do you ever feel that you are just existing in this life but not really living it? Do you feel trapped in old habits or trauma responses that feel inescapable? The question is not if we have experienced hardship, but rather how and when we have. These are the places we will explore in therapy together. We will discover how you can make meaning of your experiences, both the good and the bad. We will cultivate healing that is transformative and enables you to live a physically, emotionally, mentally, and relationally fulfilling life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
