I’ve worked as a Preschool Teacher, done counseling work with the LGBTQIA+ community, and worked treating substance use with teenagers.
Have you even felt powerless? Maybe you’ve felt it in a relationship, or in your family, or at your job. Maybe at times you've felt powerless against your own mind. I believe that there’s a deep well of power that exists inside you. All you have to do is find it and reconnect to it. I would be honored to take that journey of self-discovery with you. You are far more powerful than you know, and I hope to help you explore your power.

I help adolescent and adult men and women manage trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD or substance use as they navigate challenges and life transitions.
You feel stuck and unsure of how to keep going. You’re searching for clarity and peace but feel lost and uncertain. Days are long and feel purposeless. Perhaps you feel distanced from those you love, and you’re not sure who you are anymore. You’re angry, sad, and spent. Calling it quits, running, and hiding sounds like the best idea yet. Storms of life hit and they hurt, leaving you feeling wounded, angry, and isolated. No matter the storm you may be facing – trauma, addiction, familial stress, loneliness, depression, anxiety – you are not alone. I am here to help.

My areas of specialty are substance use and psychotic disorders.
Sometimes when things are falling apart they may actually be falling into place. Feeling lost or alone in your addiction or mental health? There are many roads to recovery and they all don't look the same. Therapy is hard, let's face it but you don't have to be alone in your struggles. Working on the clinical side of psychiatry for many years has given me a unique insight into the origins of addiction and mental health. Through my real experience and personal life experience, I will help you develop tools and come to solutions that empower you to change behaviors and ultimately your life.

Let me be on your team, help take back control of your substance use, and fully live the life you deserve.
Your relationship with alcohol is tenuous at best. You’re not sure if you want to be sober forever (because that sounds kind of scary), but something has to change. Alcohol is getting in the way of the life you have worked hard to build, and it’s only a matter of time until something bad happens. You want to understand why you drink and take back control of your life, but finding the right type of treatment has been difficult. You don't want to sit in a group of random people for hours or be shamed for drinking. There is another way. You don’t have to ‘white knuckle’ it forever.

I have experience working with individuals in both inpatient and outpatient settings for substance use disorder and addictive behaviors.
Addiction and traumatic experiences can leave you feeling broken, damaged and disconnected from yourself and those around you. You find yourself trapped in an endless cycle of making attempts at change, only to find yourself back in the same relationships, situations, and patterns of behavior. You feel alone and misunderstood by those closest to you. You’ve quit at times, only to realize you don’t enjoy the experiences others do without it. You feel empty and confused. People tell you to “just stop” and you don’t understand why you can’t, even with the consequences you’ve faced.

As Brené Brown reminds us, 'we are wired for connection,' and I bring that belief into therapy. Together, we’ll explore the challenges you face—whether it’s substance use, anxiety, depression, or daily life pressures—helping you reconnect with yourself. If perfectionism or shame feel overwhelming, we’ll break through those barriers. I also offer compassionate support if you love someone struggling with substance use, guiding you toward healing and hope. In couples therapy, we’ll focus on building trust, deepening connection, and navigating relationship distress to foster love, joy, and intimacy.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
