Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are the methods most supported by the research so I use these when working with OCD.
I am experienced in working with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety in its many flavors and forms. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, phobias, social anxiety, performance anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic are my specialties. Having OCD myself, I know the therapy is hard work and can be scary, so I take things at the pace my clients set. I like to work with my clients on a customized approach to their individual fears based on their unique goals and personal values. Creativity is a big part of my approach.

I have moved beyond the one-size-fits-all approach in treatment by embracing effective and evidence-based interventions rooted in neuroscience that are quickly gaining momentum in the field - think I-CBT, RF- ERP, ACT.
If you are ready to put holes in the story that OCD and anxiety have been telling you and construct a completely new narrative by gaining the insight and tools needed to smash obsessions, tiresome compulsions, rumination, chronic worry, and self-doubt, I'm here to tell you that I'm a therapist who has been there myself, and I truly get it. Life amidst all that mental noise can leave you feeling stuck and ill equipped to navigate ways to better maneuver in this uncertain and imperfect world. You have been tricked into playing it safe for way too long. It is time for something different; it's time for a breakthrough!

As a therapist, I'm direct and solution-centered. I challenge my members therapeutically—which can be a love/hate relationship at times—but it's often rewarding. I love working with individuals and seeing their progress. OCD isn't simple; many struggle with ingrained thinking patterns. I aim to help those who feel unsafe with their thoughts and show them there's hope. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for people with OCD. I love specializing in OCD because ERP works.
Ever since I was a child, I've been intrigued by how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. Therapy makes a significant difference in people's lives, and it's inspiring to witness how far into recovery people with OCD can go. Sometimes that means moving from having their lives completely taken over by OCD to managing it easily. Through NOCD I have received training allowing me to provide evidence-based treatment for OCD. My understanding of its nuances enables me to properly diagnose and treat it. The training in Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy ( ERP), the gold standard for OCD treatment, has been intensive.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
