A few areas that I specialize in are Attachment issues, Adoption, Kinship Care, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Behavioral Issues in children, and general Trauma.
I believe that everyone needs someone who will give them a safe, non-judgmental place to work through problems or stresses. I see the role of a therapist as someone who dives into the deep end of your emotions/problems and helps guide you on how to swim your way out. I will be there if you start to drown to help keep your head above water, but I will also help you develop the skills to get out of the deep end and know how to navigate it should you end up there again.

My training and specialization include relationships, marriage and family therapy, trauma, women’s issues, and adoption-sensitive therapy, including transracial adoption issues.
I believe in the redemptive power of relationships and have championed the cause for more than a decade by walking alongside individuals, couples and families as they heal and grow. I believe relationships can be healing instruments. Trauma and loss can be transformed. Vulnerability is courage. And when we connect to ourselves, we can effectively connect to others. This work is my passion. As an adoptive parent and psychotherapist, I also understand and respect both the pressures involved in building a family, coupled with the unique gifts and learning experiences that the adoption dynamic brings.

PLAY THERAPY (age 2 & up!), FAMILIES, COUPLES (marital, pre marital, other) or INDIVIDUALS! I have worked with children and families for 13+ years. I have training on attachment and bonding issues and frequently work with adoption triad cases (birth families, adoptive families, and adoptees). My clients range in age 2-adulthood!

Whether you’re a person who wants to better understand yourself and others, a parent overwhelmed by specific caregiving challenges, or a member of the circle of adoption in need of support for your unique journey, I truly welcome the opportunity to companion with you.
It takes courage to even consider asking for help! If you’re hoping to become a better human, if you’re ready to invest in yourself and your relationships, I offer authentic connection and companionship. Change only happens in the context of trusting relationships, I believe, and I strive to be as genuine as possible in the counseling process. I seek clients who are ready to invest in themselves and desire support for the journey. It’s also important to know I have found Internal Family Systems (IFS) to be a particularly effective modality to help individuals move towards healing and health. I am Level 1 trained in IFS.

During my training in play therapy, I have worked with many children experiencing behavioral problems, divorce, depression, anxiety, grief, abuse, adoption, relational problems with peers and siblings, academic issues, trauma, developmental delays, aggression, abandonment, and disruptive behavior.
As a parent, it can be difficult to know what to do when your child or adolescent is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties. You may often feel helpless and isolated. I can help. I have had extensive training in the field of play therapy, a developmentally appropriate approach to working with children struggling with a variety of issues. Throughout this process, your child will experience a warm, safe, and accepting environment where these issues can be worked out. I will also work to help you understand your child more and provide you with ways to feel more empowered.

Combined with her life experience in business and mind-body science, she has unique insight and capacity to work with highly driven professionals, trauma, adoption, and relationship conflict.
Whether you are seeking change and unsure of where to begin, or want to understand yourself better and manage emotions in a new way, therapy can help. It also provides privacy and compassion around the core needs of being accepted, loved, and valued. Research suggests you are more likely to have a better therapy experience if you can relate to and trust your therapist. The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lynch. Together, we will explore your questions, and consider the degree distress is interrupting your relationships, work/school, and overall life satisfaction.

My previous work in adoption has also given me insight into struggles that couples face building their families, and the various paths this process can take.
Life can often be hard and unexpected challenges can happen to anyone. I believe that having the support of someone in our corner can help us discover our unique qualities so we can emerge from difficulties stronger than we ever thought possible. I will provide a compassionate and supportive environment while we embark on your journey of growth and healing. Taking this first step is often very difficult and I invite you to contact me and see if counseling is right for you and if I would be a good fit for your needs.

I specialize in working with couples, blended families, parent-child relationships, foster care/adoption, persons who have experienced various traumatic events, and much more.
There is no question that relationships can be hard, but they can be equally satisfying...if we get them right. Are you struggling to connect to your spouse? Are you feeling frustrated by your children's behaviors? Does your self-esteem get in the way of you living a full life? Do you sometimes feel like there is a battle going on within yourself? Guess what...you are not alone, and it would be my privilege to help you through these difficult times.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
