Our therapeutic relationship is vitally important.
Life Pushes, and when it does, it can feel as though your world has tilted on its axis. Stress brings with it storms: emotional, physical, relational, financial, spiritual, including storms unique to caring for aging parents. When these storms come, it helps to have someone to trust with your story; someone to hold the "flashlight" figuratively speaking, in order to help you identify your life values, navigate your personal goals, and develop tools so your energy is spent living your life instead of existing. It is my desire to help you develop ways to exchange your current stress for strength.

It is a sacred relationship built upon trust and safety that allows us to gain new perspective.
Struggling? You don't have to go alone...... Navigating life can sometimes lead us to feel disconnected from our close relationships, the people around us, or even ourselves. We may be sailing smoothly through life at times, and at others - the unexpected happens and we are not sure what to do, or how to recover. This can lead to a profound sense of loneliness, isolation, and disconnection. If you find yourself struggling or having difficulty finding meaning and purpose - you are not alone. To struggle is to be human, and I would be honored to help you uncover the answers you seek.

So here, in the therapeutic relationship, I offer to meet you with kindness and compassion, never ceasing to be curious about the person you are becoming.
My clients are those who are hungry for relief from uncertainty, shame, and worry. They are seeking to be happier, better, more fulfilled. In therapy sessions, you will be met with curiosity, acceptance, and reflection when you speak of the things weighing on you. Together we foster consciousness around personal patterns, and in so doing we upend maladaptive anxiety and depression.

I have considerable experience treating depression, anxiety related disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, intrusive thoughts, trauma, eating disorders, and mood disorders.
Counseling is supposed to be convenient, effective and helpful. Through evidenced based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and DBT, we are able to process trauma, explore and establish coping skills, and slowly but surely, start living again. I've worked in the nonprofit sector helping victims of domestic violence as well as other issues to include addiction, personality disorders, and family conflict. I work with the LGBTQ community and take pride in working with multicultural clients.

I see couples/families and individually as needed.
My ideal client is one primarily motivated for change. I'm not an "ah huh, mmmm, I see" therapist. I am very active in sessions so my client wants honest, direct feedback and education on issues and new skills for more success. I am also patient, seasoned and aware that fear and habits make change hard, so I offer significant support and positive encouragement. My therapy involves Cognitive/Behavioral techniques meaning: understanding you "head chatter" and skills to decrease or make more positive (often driven by anxiety), and changing or creating "actions" that increase positive results and confidence.

We don't control what life gives us but we create what we have around what life gives us. I teach people to be aware of "how" they are creating what they are having... when they know how they create it, then they now have the power to change it- IF and WHEN they ( not spouse, family, friends, or me) want to. Creating change is a person's REAL POWER. Assessment of needs is done in a safe, comfortable environment utilizing Individual, Couple, Family, and Group settings.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
