It takes a lot of courage to seek help with life's challenges. I have experience helping clients navigate family conflict, anxiety and depression, performance issues in school and work, self-esteem, trauma, gender, sexuality, race, culture, and life transitions. While we can’t change difficult situations and traumas of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve them. We can also focus our work on navigating the challenges of today. Together, we will work to create attainable goals and develop adaptive skills that will positively impact areas of your life.

Through our work together, you will be able to process these big, often overwhelming emotions related to your loss and find healthy ways to move forward in your life while, at the same time, honoring and integrating the memory and love of your loved one into your daily life.
I work with adults who are struggling with a sudden or anticipated loss or death of a loved one that has left them reeling, feeling alone, misunderstood, and confused within their grieving process. Clients struggling through grief need to be heard and not judged or have their pain minimized. I will meet you wherever you are on your grief journey. Through our work together, you can get to a place of integrating the pain and the love you feel for your lost loved one. You can, once again, feel alive.

One of the terrible things about mental health related issues is the darkness that tries to silence your voice. It may feel like a hand tightening around you; you can’t breathe, you can’t speak, and if you do not loosen its grip and fight it off you, you may even lose your life to it. It does not want you to reach out for help. It wants you to suffer in silence because the more you try to fight it off alone, the more exhausted you will become. That is where I come in. If you have been silently suffering alone, be it depression, anxiety, trauma, or grief, let me help you. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is accept help.

Sometimes we imagine our life to be just a little different. And although we can not control everything in our life, we can at the very least work on ourselves. When we work on ourselves, for example, anxiety, PTSD, depression, grief, to name a few, we can learn to cope with the things we can not change to make our tomorrow just a bit better.

Depressed, moody, anxious and troubled more often than not these days, your work and relationships are suffering in the background as you try to "get a grip". From sad and tired to anxious, agitated or even angry... the emotions are exhausting. At this point, simply feeling content feels far away. Something needs to change and I can help. Often we forget that anxiety and depression are companions to things like crisis, change, grief, loneliness, conflict and many other conditions. Struggling to cope with what is in front of you right now, while also managing your anxiety or get a handle on your depressed mood might feel impossible.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
