Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

Hi there, I'm Kim. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I am passionate about helping clients face life's challenges and come out happier, healthier, and stronger on the other side. The clients I see are often experiencing major life transitions, trauma, grief and loss, addiction and recovery, stress, anxiety, and depression. In my practice, I often use person-centered therapy to meet the client exactly where they are at. I also use a variety of different tools as needed and have a strong Christian faith that can be incorporated if the client chooses a faith-based model of therapy.

Making the decision to begin counseling can seem difficult and overwhelming. My goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment for us to explore things in your life that have been bothering you. I believe once you better understand yourself, it is easier to explore why you do the things you do and what to do to change this in order to live the life you want. In order to make therapy more accessible, I offer late afternoon and evening appointments.

Embracing change can be challenging. Finding the therapist where the therapeutic alliance 'gels' is an important element in successful therapy. A phone conversation helps break the ice and gives you additional feedback to make a decision that is right for you. Please feel free to reach out, let's discuss your needs. Whether it's anxiety, depression, uncertainty, personal development, relationships or professional changes you are seeking, I will work with you to achieve your goals. Building on your current skills, and gently adding new tools, to take you to new greater skill levels, at a pace that is guided by you.

I do a lot of work with individuals and couples struggling in relationship issues. Anxiety, depression, conflict management and communication issues tend to be the results of clients applying ineffective solutions to the problems they're experiencing. I love to see the individual and/or couple who seriously desire healthy change in their lives and are willing to risk implementing different approaches to their problems. I work well in family related issues. I have several adolescent guys with issues related to ADD, ADHD, and Aspergers. I offer them an environment that's safe, accepting, understanding and validating.

You want a life different from what you have, but don’t know how to start. Your relationships have not been fulfilling and you are left believing something is wrong with you. The divorce left you confused about what you want in life because the marriage didn’t work. Your friendships feel conditional and you want to be authentic, but don’t know how the people in your life are going to react. Feeling stuck has become a daily experience and you see people around you making changes, so you know it’s possible, you just don’t know how. You are left thinking this is not the life you wanted, but you also aren’t sure what life you want.

Finding a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and safe can be a challenge. I have an eclectic approach, understanding that each person is different, and has specific needs. I exercise an empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental listening. I see therapy as a two-person process, during that process, we will focus on identifying your behavioral patterns, the roots of those identified repetitive behaviors, and the dynamic in your relationships. This will help you develop insight and foster a sense of ownership in your life. ¿Estás buscando a un terapeuta que hable tu mismo idioma? ¡Llamame!

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
