I value each client's uniqueness and believe therapy is a collaborative process. Each client is a person working through an issue that is impeding a goal. That goal may be managing depression, reducing anxiety, relieving stress, or some area within your life you feel is negatively affecting your wellness. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over ten years in mental health, counseling and therapy. I am also a Provisionally Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PLP).

My main areas of practice are Depression, Anxiety, Sleep issues (CBT-i), Life Coaching.

I provide a safe, professional, and understanding environment for you to explore your situation and make the necessary changes to improve your quality of life. I have an eclectic style with the majority of my training being in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This style allows me the flexibility of approaching each person in the way that fits them best. These non-functional brainwave patterns are in many cases, the reason behind sleep, anxiety, learning issues, just to name a few.
You are not a diagnosis. You are an individual that just wants to have your brain be sharper; be calmer; or having your child have a better experience in school. My clients are tired of medications and want to see more permanent improvements in their daily lives. ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression....almost everything that stems from the brain benefits from neurofeedback. Adults who feel "foggy", unmotivated and chaotic, use this therapy to optimize their brain. My clients are generally between 7 and 75 years of age. They have sleep issues, chronic stress or may not engage with others well. I can help you.

Located in Midtown San Antonio, River North Anxiety is a specialized mental health practice serving patients aged 18 to 65 with anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. Those experiencing any form of anxiety understand how it can control their lives. People often feel shame and don't realize that they have a treatable condition. Treatment need not involve extensive psychotherapy or even medication. Examining the accuracy of anxious thoughts, making strategic behavioral adjustments, and learning how to manage the physical sensations of anxiety are three components of effective, lasting anxiety treatment.

While serving as the director and staff psychologist for over 14 years at the Counseling Service at the University of Texas Health Science Center, I had the opportunity to work with individuals presenting with wide range of presenting issues. The decision to seek psychotherapy is one that takes much courage and can positively change the current path of your life. While largely influenced by cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and person-centered theories, I believe strongly in the need to tailor my interventions to meet the specific needs of my clients.

I'm about love, self-compassion, radical acceptance, embracing failure, trusting your innate wisdom and starting over. I fundamentally believe in every person's ability to recover from trauma, addiction and life, in general. Experience has taught me that no one is really avoiding anything. When people accuse you of not dealing with something, what they are really saying is you aren't dealing with it the way they want you to. From my perspective, if you wake up every morning and breathe in and out all day long, you're dealing with your stuff. A tiny bit of intention is all it takes to begin healing.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
