I am trained in EMDR which is a specialized form of treatment for trauma which operates under the belief that healing past wounds will allow us to live more fulfilling futures.
Making the decision to begin counseling can seem difficult and overwhelming. My goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment for us to explore things in your life that have been bothering you. I believe once you better understand yourself, it is easier to explore why you do the things you do and what to do to change this in order to live the life you want. In order to make therapy more accessible, I offer late afternoon and evening appointments.

I have been EMDR trained to help people process through events in their past to help them in their future.
Do you find yourself overwhelmed because you are trying to do too much in your life? Does this leave you feeling stuck and exhausted because you are spending too much energy worrying about what others will think and trying to make them happy? Do you have a secret dark side to your gifts that most people never see? Maybe you find you are taking your life and yourself so seriously that you are too hard on yourself. You never give yourself a break which may lead to “It’s never good enough” or “I’m never enough.” Maybe you don’t give yourself enough credit for how far you’ve actually come and how well you’re actually doing.

I am a CCPS-Candidate, a CSAT-Candidate, and EMDR trained.
I am dedicated to helping my clients heal from trauma, grow in self-awareness, and find and establish their identity and value. My husband and I walked through infidelity in our relationship and I compassionately understand the devastation betrayal has on a partner, a relationship, and a family. I understand the difficult questioning that occurs after a betrayal and the excruciating work it takes to become healthy and maintain wholeness. Asking for help is often difficult, however my client-centered approach creates a safe, non-judgmental space for you to process and begin healing.

Nothing in life is one size fits all; therapy is no exception. My first priority is to establish a trusting relationship with you, then together create goals tailored to your individual needs. As humans, we tend to shy away from uncomfortable, unwanted, or overwhelming feelings/thoughts. We all develop habits to cope; sometimes those habits may no longer be helpful. In a non-judgmental and safe environment, we will work together, unlock your potential and create the change you desire. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and fully trained in EMDR in Texas.

I assist my clients with various therapeutic approaches, including a combination of cognitive behavioral, strength based/solution focused, client centered, EMDR, Brainspotting and Neurofeedback brain training.
Experiencing hurdles in life such as challenging relationships, family life issues and concerns about the direction of your career are normal, but can leave you feeling anxious, depressed, frustrated or angry. So many of our problems come down to not having enough insight into how our minds work; what we want, what we fear, why we act the way we do, and why we are overwhelmed by certain feelings. I believe that every person who seeks counseling has their own answers to their unique situations and my job is to facilitate finding those answers.

I take an eclectic approach in working with clients by drawing from experiential and strengths-based approaches, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR, TF-CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Life is complex – often filled with positive experiences and also times of facing challenges. At times, it can feel overwhelming to manage some of those challenges on your own, and therapy can be a great source of support. I seek to create a space where you can understand more about yourself, the current challenges you are facing, and feel empowered in reaching your personal goals, hopes, and dreams. Therapy is most beneficial when you feel a sense of partnership and ownership in your process, from the first meeting, in setting your goals for therapy, and in setting a pace that supports your needs, healing, and growth.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
