I enjoy helping children, teens, young adults, and adults who have experienced sexual trauma, life adjustment related issues, and conflicts within marriage and family relationships.
Finding a therapist that matches your personality and to your liking is a full-time job itself - I get it. Therapy is more than just having a safe space to talk, it is a place where you can be you, and it would be my honor to host that space for you. As an immigrant in America (coming from Malaysia when I was 19 years old), I have gained an understanding of bringing harmony to different world views in marriage and family relationships as well as helping individuals with difficult life transitions.

We collaborate in solving life confusion, emotional anxiety, and depression, addiction recovery, addiction analysis, marriage and family conflict, parenting, and analyzing and dealing with frustration and confusion.
Brokenness comes from relationships, and brokenness comes from the individual's heart. Perhaps you are struggling with the pain of a broken heart and have no way to repair it, and your life is bleak with no future in sight. When I was young, I also experienced a "broken heart," which is hard to describe! After that, I regained my faith and finished my Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling, CCPC (7000 hours of practice), and became a senior lecturer in Marriage and Family Counseling. Twenty years ago, I received nearly 1,000 Chinese with various kinds of "brokenness" psychological problems.

While some marital issues can come as a surprise, such as with the discovery of infidelity or sexual addiction, relationships often don’t fail overnight. Instead it’s a slow fade. Divorce rates tell the story of marriages in slow decline with too little help coming too late. Do you and your partner struggle to communicate effectively? Perhaps your conflicts have become destructive. Maybe you both live more as roommates than partners or even lovers. Are resentments growing as battlelines are drawn? Has one of you threatened divorce in the heat of an argument? Or have you been devastated by infidelity or sexual addiction?

As humans, we all experience pain. The source of your pain may look similar or different from others, but it is unique to you. Often we are overwhelmed by our circumstances and desire relief. Sometimes our pain manifests as anxiety, depression, marital conflict, grief or identity crisis. Whatever your circumstance or however deep your pain, I believe it is important to have a safe, non-judgmental and neutral place to share your story and seek healing. My desire is to see each of us being functional and purposeful members of society even in the midst of struggles.

If you are wrestling with relationship issues with others - marriage, parenting/co-parenting, divorce, infidelity, secrecy, blended family issues, emotional abuse or childhood trauma, or if you are wrestling with relational issues within yourself - shame, identity, self-harm, anxiety, and depression, call me.
Relationships provide a window to the heart of an individual like no other. Our closest relationships tend to reveal our most wounded places. Those hurts, if left unresolved, are carried forward and recast into our exiting patterns of relating. All our experiences, but most particularly our pain, become the filter through which we sift and construct our view of self, our approach to life, our capacity love and be loved, and our ability to trust.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
