After working at an inpatient unit for those who have gone through psychological trauma, I gained experience working with those with Complex PTSD mainly stemming from childhood abuse and/or sex trafficking.
You deserve to feel seen and heard. I want my office to be a safe space for all of my clients. A place where you can be yourself and have a non-judgmental place to process whatever is going on in your life. I have extensive experience working with clients with trauma, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. I have also worked with many clients coming out of abusive relationships. Being able to see my clients break out of the cycles they are stuck in and realize that they deserve better, is one of the greatest gifts.

02/15/23 Accepting new clients As a counselor and a retired cop, I have dealt with a wide range of tragedies that can drive a person to seek counseling. Life is messy, and my background will help me understand what you have been through. Trauma is an emotional injury, and like many physical injuries it can heal if you tend to it properly. Even if you haven’t suffered an extreme event, you may feel stuck and be unable to move forward. I retired from policing so that I could more directly help people put their lives back together. Having bad things happen shouldn’t keep you from being able to have a good life.

I love working with trauma, anxiety, depression, family conflict, and life transitions.
Accepting new clients! Do you feel overloaded, numb, or like you're just getting by? Are there events in your life that impact you but you don't have the tools you want to handle them? I understand, and you are not alone. I believe in providing a safe space for my clients, allowing them to share their concerns while offering practical tools for positive life change. Rather than focusing on isolated issues, I prefer to examine the whole picture, diving into different aspects of my clients’ lives. By addressing what might be hurting or holding my clients back, I foster a supportive environment for healing and growth.

I have experience working in a hospital setting, as well as with military veterans and clients experiencing trauma, intimacy, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar, family conflict, job dissatisfaction, drug abuse, suicidality and body image issues.
I have a passion for learning how the mind works and how it interacts with many other systems (family, work, body, spirit) to create the individual as a whole. This helps me identify the power emotions and thought have over one’s life. My approach follows the idea of achieving a stage where my client no longer qualifies for a diagnosis.

I am trained in Trauma Informed Care, CPT, CBT, Solution Focused, & Person Centered Therapy.
Therapy is one of the hardest things that anyone can do! Take it from someone who has been to therapy throughout their life. It is never easy to be completely vulnerable to someone that you just met. Therapy is about exploring your feelings, thoughts, emotions, frustrations, fear, and uncertainty that you may be experiencing. I strive hard to provide a non-judgemental and safe place for you to come and explore. I work really hard with clients to meet them where they are at, not where everyone thinks they should be. I journey with you, not ahead or behind you.

My ideal clients are school aged children, adolescents, and individuals undergoing life transitions. I enjoy working with kids/teens and their families to help foster positive development.

Other times, we may focus on trauma processing using various interventions based on my training for PTSD.
Many of my clients have experienced a traumatic event(s) such as sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or neglect. The last ones can be harder to define because invalidation is a common form of emotional neglect that is hard to label. Despite what the trauma is or if it falls into one of those categories exactly, if it affects you, then it matters. Clients come to me with confusion and emotional pain that I help them sift through and connect with in order to heal and return to their new normal version of life. I welcome all clients from all walks of life, races, cultures, genders, and preferences.

I have hope that everyone is capable of growth and change. I would like to help you in whatever challenges you are facing. Learning about myself and others has helped me grow. Life at best is always moving and changing, we must learn how to adapt and grow from the process.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
