I redirected my career after working in retail for many years. I found that counseling was helpful in making effective changes in my own personal life and decided to return to school and become a counselor. I have worked with children and families, adults, teens, and seniors utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy to help others make changes in their lives also. I believe in holding people accountable for making those changes while walking alongside them to help guide them in the direction that they need to go. I am encouraging and help people find the path to the changes that they want to make in their lives.

I use evidence-based models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and believe that our thoughts are extremely powerful in influencing our outcomes.
Have you been feeling like everyone else seems to be handling life and stress better than you? Life is just plain hard sometimes, and often through no fault of our own. I have lived with a disability myself for over 25 years and I understand how challenging life can be at times. Maybe for you it is anxiety/worry that keeps you up at night, or maybe it's a feeling of hopelessness or helplessness because life hasn't turned out how you thought it might have. I know you have what it takes to overcome life's challenges, and I would love to walk along side you on your path to resilience.

I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps to overcome unhealthy/distorted thought processes, leading to positive changes in emotions & behavior.
The world is not always an easy place to live. Often our circumstances are beyond our control, but we can learn to change the lens through which we view our circumstances. Through counseling, you and I can work together to help you develop coping strategies, increase personal growth, strengthen your emotional well-being, address unresolved issues, explore patterns of behavior, and improve interpersonal relationships. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental place for clients ages 18 and up to process feelings and navigate the difficult issues of life. If you live in TX or FL, I would love to support your emotional needs through Telehealth!

I am trained in Trauma Informed Care, CPT, CBT, Solution Focused, & Person Centered Therapy.
Therapy is one of the hardest things that anyone can do! Take it from someone who has been to therapy throughout their life. It is never easy to be completely vulnerable to someone that you just met. Therapy is about exploring your feelings, thoughts, emotions, frustrations, fear, and uncertainty that you may be experiencing. I strive hard to provide a non-judgemental and safe place for you to come and explore. I work really hard with clients to meet them where they are at, not where everyone thinks they should be. I journey with you, not ahead or behind you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
