Do you find yourself wishing for better days? Have you lost interest in the things that once brought you joy? Are your basic responsibilities weighing you down? Life doesn't have to be about exhaustion and overwhelm day in and day out. We can work together to improve your current circumstances. I love listening to my client's stories and helping them put the pieces together. At times we may mix conversation with psychoeducation in coping skills, mindfulness, and meditation. Bravely sharing your story in counseling allows you a rare opportunity to be heard without judgment. This is a priceless opportunity to process your experience.

I assist clients in working through anxiety, anger, grief, addiction, trauma, marital conflict, recovery from infidelity, and premarital counseling.
Each individual has a unique story, co-authored with God, giving purpose and meaning to their time on earth. Life's many joys, trials, and challenges present opportunities for new chapters to unfold. I believe in the healing power of storytelling within the counseling relationship, and use a holistic, EFT-focused approach to therapy. It is of utmost importance to me that my clients have a safe, empathetic, and caring environment in which to process the many components of their unique life stories.

Welcome! My name is Victoria Williams and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I work with individuals and family in areas such as anxiety, anger management, behavioral issues, coping skills, and depression, amongst others. I work well with adolescents in that I listen to them and help them gain insight to understanding how their behaviors play a major role in their future. I use the cognitive behavioral therapy approach as I believe thoughts are directly tied to behaviors. Once we are able to identify irrational thoughts, we can start to learn more positive functional behaviors to respond to uncomfortable situations.

You're tired, frustrated and just want peace at home! What works for one of your children doesn't work for the other and that's frustrating. Wish your teen girl came with an instruction manual? Your teen seems lonely, withdrawn, struggling with social issues, or can't control their anger and you feel hopeless because you don't know what to do to help. As parents we want our children to be healthy and happy yet sometimes we can't fix the situation for them and that makes us feel a failure as a parent.

I see clients both virtually and in person; and in our work together, you will create or reconnect with a life worth living. You will come to see emotions - even the painful emotions of anger, sadness and guilt - as signals that something needs your attention rather than something to be avoided. You will gain an understanding of who you are and how you are, which will facilitate personal changes you may want to make or help you navigate challenges you are facing. And maybe, most importantly, you will strengthen your relationship with yourself and with others.

We all desire to belong, feel loved, and to know purpose. We long to feel accepted and valued. But sometimes, the way we hold our experiences can lead us to hold onto fears and limiting beliefs about ourselves. Our inner self-talk can lead us to believe lies about ourselves and the world around us. This internal dysfunction can manifest itself in anxiety, depression, anger issues, addictions, and struggles in relationships and our work life. We have over 17 years of education, training, and a lifetime of our own struggles and victories. Let us journey alongside you towards a more fulfilling life of purpose, love, joy, and peace.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
