At the Child Behavior Center we work with you, and with your child. To help a child, we must help mom and dad too! We assist you in navigating the ups and downs of frustrating, often puzzling child behavior. Specializing in treatment for high functioning autism (Aspergers Syndrome in the past,) PDD (pervasive developmental delay), and many children with behavioral differences and challenges, we design treatment plans individualized for neuroatypical, developmentally challenged children, children with high anxiety, anger, aggression, and sensory overload, among others. A natural partner with these problems is often social rejection.

No matter where we find ourselves in life, and regardless of who we are, we all have things that stand between us and the life we want. You may feel stuck in your career. The pressure and dissatisfaction from work may follow you home and impact your closest relationships. Maybe marriage and family have become a juggling act and it feels like both are about to hit the floor. It could seem like none of your dreams or goals are falling into place along the timeline you envisioned, and you feel isolated. Sometimes being alone isn’t nearly as heavy as feeling alone.

Avoiding your pain hasn't worked... Will I ever be? How can I ? I'm so... Depression, anxiety, tears or fears a daily companion? Heart palpitations, racing mind, so much confusion... shame!? A constant cycle of doubt? Life seem so emotion filled & distant? I know you're looking for a safe place to vent. Someone to know and hear your real hurts. A place to begin, explore & heal... "someone who will get the real pain in me..." I am so glad you are looking for connection. I get it. I've been there. I'll go there. I'm ready to walk through painful life events w/ you while seeking truth, knowing peace and finding hope.

I have a long history of working with children, adolescents, and their families. While I believe that our past does shape who we are, it does not define what our future has to be. I have worked in various settings which include foster care, residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and school based mental health. I work to create an environment where clients feel safe, comfortable, and calm which allows them to grow in the areas that they need to so that they can live their best life.

Therapy is having courageous conversations about our deepest desires. I have spent the last decade helping people discover their truest selves, deepen their relationships, and grow through the meaning that accompanies life transitions, suffering, and mental health issues.

I know what it feels like to experience deep loneliness. All of my life including today I have felt and still feel misunderstood due to my unique circumstances in life. Because I know how this feels like, I connect with clients who have felt or are still feeling misunderstood and alone. Whether it is the hidden loneliness of a leader or the obvious loneliness of someone who is rejected, I relate to both. The clients that I serve that often feel this way are those with church trauma, ADHD, and third culture kids (those who have been raised in countries outside of their parent's passport countries).

There are many motivations for seeking psychotherapy. Major life transitions, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship problems and other stressors often result in feelings of mental and emotional paralysis. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help my clients uncover their true potential. While we cannot change the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve life's challenges. Through a Cognitive-Behavioral approach, I assist my clients to identify and challenge long-standing thought and behavior patterns that may be roadblocks to experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Relationships are complicated. Our relationships can bring us great joy, but also great and lasting pain. Many of the burdens that we carry come from our relationships with others, both past and present. These relationships, then, need to be part of our emotional healing, whether or not other people participate in counseling. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I believe that we all have the ability to heal within our relationships and within ourselves. It is the goal of the counseling process, then, to empower us to heal and change in order to live more balanced and fulfilling lives.

Hi there! My name is Jack Arbuckle and I am a LPC Associate (supervised by Amy Salinas, LPC-S and Meagan Jackson, LPC-S, RPT-S). I'm honored that your search has taken you to my page. My practice is driven by a passion for helping children and teens become the best possible versions of themselves while offering support for whatever struggles they might face. Life can often feel challenging and overwhelming, yet far too often the struggles of children and teenagers are overlooked or brushed aside. Regardless of how old you are, your problems deserve to be recognized—and you don’t have to struggle through them alone.

Life can be challenging, and everyone faces difficult times. My ideal client is someone who is struggling with a sense of feeling lost or stuck in their life. They may be grappling with life's circumstances or trying to find their place in the world. My approach is rooted in existentialism, which means I focus on helping clients find meaning and purpose in their lives. I believe that every individual has the capacity to tap into their own inner strength and resources to overcome challenges and create a more fulfilling life.

Your heart pounds, and muscles tense as you walk through your front door. You never know what’s going to greet you on the other side. You remember when you looked forward to coming home and sharing your day with your wife. Now, it feels like you’re always walking on eggshells, never sure what might set off the next fight. Communication has fallen apart, and even simple conversations become arguments. Lately, it’s easier to just avoid each other. You’ve both sacrificed so much for this relationship, and neither of you is ready to give up, but you’re running out of ideas. And you worry that it may already be too late to save things.

I believe every person has an innate motivation to move towards the best version of themselves. I view my position in the therapeutic relationship as supporting a person through what may be a very difficult time so that the individual or family can move forward. I view therapy from a person-centered perspective, meaning an individual or family leads decisions regarding change. What I find most important in counseling is the therapeutic relationship between client and counselor. I nurture this relationship by providing a safe space for people to explore their deep personal struggles while I remain nonjudgmental and empathetic.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
