Some of my favorite therapy techniques are rooted in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR, Acceptance & Commitment therapy/Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered counseling, and Gestalt therapy.
Supervised by Sidney Starling M.Ed., LPC-S, LMFT-S. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, passionate about collaborating with clients who are on their mental wellbeing journey. I believe the future is always negotiable and there is reason for hope. Change may not be easy, and may take time, reflection, and exploration. My ideal client is open, truthful, self-reflective, courageous, and willing to work towards what he/she/they want for their lives. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, or addiction, I believe we can work together to help you reach your goals.

Psychotherapy is an art and a science. The art is the use of oneself combining the intuitive sense; the naturalness in expressing comfort and caring; the ability to relate to all people; and the comfort in self-disclosure. The science is the skills and techniques we learn and the knowing what techniques will be helpful in moving clients beyond their walls towards a healthier life Please go to my website at http://www.rachelgunner.com to read my philosophy about psychotherapy, coaching and mediation.

I value building a safe relationship first and use research based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR for problematic memories that need reprocessing.
Pain arrives unasked. Often it comes and goes, but there are seasons when we feel “stuck” in suffering and unable to move forward. Do you have overwhelming anxiety or depression you can’t seem to shake? Do you have teenagers struggling with anxiety, social difficulties, and questions of identity? Through the counseling process, my intention is to help you build a heart of resiliency. One that possesses greater wholeness and confidence in your ability to navigate any and all turns of life. My aim is that you will develop skills to change the things you can, acceptance of what cannot, and develop greater hope for the future.

I use a form of trauma care called EMDR that you may have heard about.
I approach my life's work humbly, even reverently, with deep sensitivity for what's got you even coming to see someone like me in the first place. I get that, really I do. And I'd love to help. I fit best with people who are okay with ambiguity and can "let the questions breathe," as we work on whatever has brought us together. I am able to see clients in Texas in person or virtually when you are in Arkansas.

I am also an EMDR trained therapist who treats trauma.
*No evening or weekend appointments* Life can throw curve balls at us and when that happens it's helpful to have a trained professional who can help you process how to move forward. I have experience treating individuals, couples and families and significant experience dealing with cases of infidelity, divorce, anxiety and depression. Couples are a big focus for me but of course I also see individuals. I have a particular interest in clients dealing with anxiety, depression or have past trauma. I also do therapy with local celebrities who have unique concerns about privacy.

I'm trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, CRM, DBT, ACT and CBT.
If this has come your way, there is a part of you that recognizes it is time for a change. Whether that change is seeking clarity in some areas of your life or maybe it is wanting to work through complex emotions. It could possibly be working through a traumatic experience, challenging negative thinking patterns, or maybe it is learning new techniques to cope with difficult situations? Perhaps it is focused on personal growth? I am here to create a space that allows that process to naturally unfold. I will encourage your natural capacity towards health, while also removing the blocks, obstacles and painful patterns of suffering

Trained in Collaborative Law, Certified Anger Resolution Therapist, trained in EMDR and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist.
Symptoms are signals received from both the conscious mind from various sources throughout the body, an indication that something is wrong. By avoiding theses indicators, clients with extending and spiraling issues are able to address symptoms that would otherwise end in a complex and convoluted crises. Obviously our weaknesses and issues, such as anger, insecurity, fear of intimacy, and/or the need to control are expressions of a wounded child within. Much of society has been wounded through abuse or dysfunctional families. Unresolved conflicts tend to carry-over into our adult functioning.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
