I have 11 years of experience in working with mental health crisis and substance use.
Counseling is about instilling hope in those who may have lost it along the way with all of the pressures that arise in life. With all of the stressors we experience, I believe everyone can benefit from counseling to help remove some of that pressure and live a life where you can thrive and enjoy every day. I take a person-centered counseling approach by addressing the needs of the individual in manageable ways they can incorporate into their lives. I also use solution-focused therapy to keep the sessions directed to what the individual wants to achieve from the counseling experience.

We as humans aren't meant to go through difficult times alone. When your resources seem low, a therapist offers consistent, reliable opportunities to work toward your healing. I might be a good fit for you if you are looking for empowerment through creative expression. As an art therapist, I believe art and imagination can address our bodies' biological survival responses in ways rational thinking and talk therapy can't.

I have been a therapist for 15 years and have experience with substance use counseling. I feel that it is a privilege to walk beside clients as they navigate their lives and that they trust me to be part of the process. It is not lost on me how much the power of being a safe space to land is. I feel that everyone can use the support of a therapist to help teach them new skills, refresh their mind on old ones, and look at how a positive mindset can have a big impact on things!

My specialties include working with individuals wanting to process: depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem, emotional issues, relationship issues, substance use/ addiction, and grief and loss.
Are you feeling lost and not sure what the next step is? I am here to process those thoughts and talk with you. It is not uncommon to lose connection with our voice and inner self. I am here to help you rebalance and re-discover how to connect with that piece of you. We all have the ability to heal ourselves; however, life challenges can throw that balance off. Though therapy, we can regain our strength and overcome barriers or strengthen areas where we want to grow by actively working on improvement and embracing the process of change.

I have significant experience in working with substance use, mood disorders, generational trauma, and personality disorders.
My goal is to provide an empathetic ear and therapeutic interventions to help you find cohesiveness and balance. Together, we can identify what’s not working in your life, enhance what is working, and explore ways to expand your life in more fulfilling ways. We will focus on the present moment – getting honest and vulnerable about your current patterns, curious about the past and how those experiences impact you now, and influence the future by incorporating new skills and goals. My role is to walk with you through your highs and lows, challenge, and encourage you.

I have six years of counseling experience and expertise in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, and substance use.
As an autistic person, my treatment is embedded in a philosophy of affirming care that respects neurodiversity and differences. I have an affinity for providing services to LGBTQ+ teens. I work collaboratively to figure out each individual's goals and treatment needs. My clients have often felt misunderstood, unseen, marginalized, and/or have experienced challenges with substance use. In our work together, I seek to provide clients with an experience of repair: if I don't understand, I will clarify and try harder. If I mess up, I will apologize. More than anything, I will always do my best to see the person in front of me.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
