I believe in an experiential approach to therapy, helping you find creative ways to heal. As a therapist, I like to focus on how to make your future brighter. I have a passion for helping people. I believe in the saying that we are able to "Heal Our Past and Change Our Future" if we are willing to grow. I believe that change is possible through the use of several techniques such as CBT, experiential therapy, animal-assisted therapy.

Unfortunately we live in a hectic and fast paced world. At times things can be overwhelming, often feeling negative and hopeless that change will ever occur. I have worked with clients struggling with depression, social anxiety, mood disorders and self-esteem issues sort out their own darkest and deepest moments. I'm a compassionate, concerned and empathetic therapist who wants to provide you "armor to go out and fight your life battles." More times than not, life and its stressors cause depression, anxiety, relationship issues, etc., that can make it difficult to function in everyday settings such as work and with family during interactions. I strive to provide counseling to help you move closer towards your goals and decrease/eliminate the severity of your symptoms.

My passion is to help you uproot your trauma rather than just treat symptoms (which can often feel unhelpful and frustrating long-term). I frequently work with complex trauma/complex PTSD, insecure attachment patterns, LGBTQIA+ identities, ADHD, and Autism. Clients often come to me feeling "stuck", deeply misunderstood, repeating painful patterns, having had negative therapy experiences in the past, feeling like "nothing works", and have a history of intellectualizing their feelings. It is my goal to help you work through your trauma, navigate your identity, and feel more present and safe in your every day life.

Making the choice to attend to personal or relational healing is an act of courage. The courage to show up. The courage to be seen in all the beautiful, difficult and complex parts of being human. As a fellow traveler on the road to growth, we all need help along the way. The stigma of counseling is, thankfully, moving aside and making way for us to create purposeful living as well as strong, secure relational bonds that have far reaching benefits for couples and families. I have a collaborative and humanistic approach to co-creating an environment where you feel safe, seen and honored.

I offer individual, couple and family therapy using a marriage and family therapy systemic approach. Through the use of a systemic approach, I explore the issues you bring to therapy in the context of your world and important relationships in your life.
My role as a therapist is to empower you to help yourself. I believe when we personally see the need for change and are intrinsically motivated to change, we experience movement in therapy at a much faster rate than if we are pushed to change by outside sources. Let me help you find your intrinsic self-worth.

“I don’t like to think that the only people that have problems come to therapy because when we say that people have problems that means that there is something wrong with them. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the people that come to counseling, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with the clients I see. I do believe that talking to a genuine professional can help you look at things in a different way in hopes to gain insight into yourself – to me that is invaluable.” – Gerardo Blanco

Experiential Therapy
How does experiential therapy work?
Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.
Is experiential therapy evidence-based?
Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.
How long does experiential therapy last?
The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
Does experiential therapy help with trauma?
Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
