Sometimes we find ourselves in a cycle of anxiety, loops of negative thought patterns, complicated emotions and behaviors, unmanageable stress, and unhealthy ways of coping. These challenges can lead us to feel disconnected from loved ones and even ourselves. The way we handle these challenges can determine the path our lives take. The good news is there is always hope, and we CAN pave a new path forward. I believe we are all self-healers, with the power and ability within us to heal, break old patterns, learn new strategies, and increase our quality of life, so we can live the life we truly wish to live.

Hey there! My name is Sandi. I recognize connecting with a new counselor can be hard, at first. My biggest hope is to create a safe space, free from judgement, that allows you to let go of the weight you've been carrying. We all experience pain and discomfort with ourselves and with our relationships. It can become overwhelming and isolating when we face family trauma or conflict that leads to depression, anxiety, or grief. You are not alone in your experience and I can help.

Your peace doesn't have to be limited. The devastation of betrayal, abandonment, divorce, disease, or death can change you instantly. Perhaps resentment, depression and anxiety are interfering with the quality of your life. Is addiction keeping you in bondage? Is Post-Acute Withdrawal limiting your day to day functioning?Trauma keeping you from experiencing life? If anything is preventing you from getting to a healthy place, maybe it's time to examine what your next steps will be. Don't allow fear, work, and life's hustle to keep you from having peace. Find peace regardless of your circumstances. Life can get better!

Not accepting new clients
While well versed and experience in traditional interventions and therapeutic styles, such as CBT and DBT, Nicole's approach to therapy is collaborative and holistic. She includes mythology, spirituality and other non-traditional interventions in her treatment planning, particularly working to include a client’s cultural background into their care. Nicole’s guiding principle in therapy and wellness is authenticity. This is true in how she presents herself to clients and in encouraging clients to embrace their most genuine selves.

There are so many surprises and experiences in the world to shape and grow us, some of which can be life-changing or hard to move past. It is easy to become voiceless, bottle things up, or notice that you completely have changed yourself to merely get by. Normalcy is often what everyone wants, but yet, to achieve it can be a constant battle with unending emotions. I have an innate drive and passion for supporting others and helping them reach their full potential as they navigate through transitions, adolescence, and other milestones in life, regardless of age group.

People sometimes have traumatic events in their life; spending years trying to ‘get over’ the event without being able to process the trauma. Trauma impacts a person’s life and their ability to heal. I work with adults who want to address the trauma and its effects. They want to change the feelings of inadequacy, poor self esteem and of course depression. Trauma effects can manifest in different beliefs about ourselves. Changing those beliefs is a beginning to changing our relationship with ourselves. I find partnering with individuals who want to work on creating a more fulfilling future for themselves is humbling.

I am a collaboratively oriented counselor. I believe that successful change is dependent on your enthusiastic participation in the process. I see myself as a sort of guide and someone who can offer alternative perspectives which may lead you to new ways of thinking about and acting on your circumstances. I believe that ultimately you contain the solutions to the things you bring to therapy. I will do my best to help you access those solutions and find your best possible outcome.

Anxiety takes many forms: stress, worry, PTSD, panic attacks, social anxiety, health anxiety, OCD, etc... Anxiety can be so overwhelming that we feel paralyzed. Anxiety can keep us from taking the leap of faith we need to in order to be our authentic selves and live the life we truly want to live. If you can relate to this, you are not alone. Contrary to popular belief, courage is NOT the absence of anxiety. Courage is being afraid and not allowing anxiety to hold you back. This is where I come in to help. My passion is helping people overcome anxiety by enhancing courageous living, however that is defined by YOUR goals and values.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
