I am a dedicated Christian fulfilling God's will in my life.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a dedicated Christian called to help adolescents, adults and families move beyond some of the difficulties in life. I am available for some evening appointments. I believe the counseling process is much like a journey and is a collaborative effort between the therapist and the individual, or family. Inspired by each individual's potential to strengthen resiliency and healing. Regardless of what we will face, we must trust that we will emerge triumphant.

I also provide Christian Counseling and am an LPC Associate supervised by Meredith A.
Sometimes things feel too difficult to bear alone. Maybe you are experiencing a challenging transition, struggling with the past, or dealing with strong feelings such as hopelessness, loss of self-worth, or isolation. As a counselor, I can offer a listening ear and a non-judgmental attitude as we navigate whatever you are going through together. If you are a parent seeking help for your child, I offer Child-Centered Play therapy for children ages 4-12. Children engage in counseling by interacting with the therapist and toys in a special setting. I team with parents and have parent consults regularly.

Much of my counseling is informed by my faith as a Christian and my belief that God loves people no matter their age, disability, gender, race or sexual orientation.
Relationships often need practice – learning and practicing new ways of interacting. Even when the relationship is with the person in the mirror! I provide a safe environment for you to explore reactions, thoughts and feelings about people in your life as well as yourself. I am experienced and passionate about helping. I’ve spent several years in private practice working with clients dealing with addiction, anxiety, Bi-Polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, grief, Post-Traumatic Stress, relationship distress and Schizophrenia. I have completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

I received my BS in Psychology and my Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University in 2011 & 2013.
Hello! My name is McKenzie, If you're looking here its probably because you want to heal, grow, and become a healthier version of YOU! Having gone through the healing and growth process myself, while sitting on the couches of counselors and mentors, I know that it’s vulnerable and requires hard work and self-reflection. However, I'm here to help you get to a place where you can reflect back on your growth and feel empowered while tackling life's challenges, conflicts, and stresses.

My typical counseling approach, and that of my colleagues at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, is anchored firmly and unapologetically in the Christian world-view. We do so with a clear, unwavering theistic paradigm that acknowledges God's sovereignty in all things, as He is intimately interested in, and responsive to, each person and all they experience. Therefore, unless otherwise directed by the client, our approach will inherently involve the use of biblical revelation and the principles found therein, when ever appropriate and applicable. The Christ centered world view is paramount to my approach to healing.

As a licensed clinical social worker I have the experience and training to help you clearly identify the area of concern and work with you to create a plan to address it.

I have found that people often begin therapy feeling stressed and frustrated, but I provide support in exploring their narrative and revealing patterns. By doing this together we may discover patterns that they may not be conscious of, so that they can begin to have more control over their emotions and behaviors. This provides them with the ability to be excited about their lives and relationships again.

Transitions can bring incredible growth. But sometimes, we can't see the possibilities because change is hard and often painful. I'm here to support you through your transition journey: entering/leaving the military, becoming a new parent, launching young adults, divorce, grief.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
