Life's a journey, with many unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes we need someone to talk to, someone to share our thoughts and feelings, dreams and fears, and help guide us toward resolution. I want to help my clients navigate this path, and to also experience the possibilities of living their best life possible. I work with older teens and adults, and also specialize in women's issues across the lifespan, as well as those with health concerns. College students are a special interest, as are educators, as I’ve worked as a teacher and school counselor and understand the stress and dynamics associated with the profession.

If you feel like you're on the margins of society in some way, perhaps struggling with the constraints of traditional norms, and worry that therapy might feel stifling or judgmental, you're not alone. Most of us don't fit neatly into standardized societal boxes. The trauma of trying to conform and fit in may weighs heavily. As a therapist, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your identity, experiences, and challenges without fear of invalidation. Together, we can navigate the complexities of your unique journey towards healing and self-discovery, honoring and celebrating the multifaceted aspects of, you.

I have a passion for teaching individuals, couples and families how to improve their relationships, build confidence and self-esteem, and find greater happiness and satisfaction in life. I work with clients to help them develop strategies and learn specific skills to reach the goals they desire, while also understanding how their changes will impact the people around them. Therapy should feel hopeful and productive, and I love seeing people grow and change and feel more empowered, peaceful and happy with their lives as they learn new things and experience the satisfaction of seeing rapid change.

Women experience many unique stressors. We face outside pressures from society, family, and friends about how we should act, look, or feel. Are you are in a crisis situation, going through a separation/divorce, struggling with the demands of school, peer pressure, parenting and/or step parenting? Do you feel like you don't have the strength to handle it all or that you have lost yourself in the process.

Waking up to a new day, but it's like déjà vu all over again. The daily grind feels more like an endless loop of the same old routine, and despite the wins, something's missing. It's like living in Groundhog Day, minus the comedy. Behind the scenes, there's a tug of war happening. Success? Check. Anxiety? Triple check. It's a weird mix of "I'm doing okay" and "What am I doing with my life?" that's hard to ignore. Want to find meaning in the midst of the chaos? Learn to stop avoiding the "boogie monster", stop people pleasing, gain perspective, and set boundaries for yourself. Get in the driver's seat again. I see and hear you!

These experiences help create our story. Let’s explore each chapter of your story in hopes to find healing where there is pain and hope where suffering has existed. Let’s walk on this healing journey together to uncover who you are, to discover what you already have inside of you and to provide you more tools to make this healing possible.

You're already feeling overwhelmed and things continue piling up. You question whether your unhappiness is situational or if it has something to do with your past. You want to feel better, but life seems out of balance and you feel hopeless. My career started as a classroom teacher and school counselor. I currently have over 20 years of experience working with students and families. In addition to my school counseling career, I am a crisis clinician in a major hospital in the DFW metroplex and work in over 32 emergency rooms providing on-call patient care. We all face unexpected challenges which sometimes leave us feeling hopeless and powerless. I believe that we have the ability to make healthy and appropriate choices regardless of the circumstances in which we may find ourselves.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
