My goal as a professional counselor is to build warm, open, authentic, and non-judgmental partnerships with my clients. My theoretical orientation is somewhat eclectic, however I tend to use a lot of cognitive behavioral and solution focused techniques in my practice. My treatment approach is unique for each client as we work together to reach your goals.

My approach is eclectic, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness techniques and other skills-building strategies.
****Currently Accepting New Clients July 2024**** Meeting the Clients where they are… Searching out and seeking help from a mental health professional can be scary and overwhelming. I believe the key to building a strong therapeutic alliance is meeting the client where they are. As a therapist my role is to provide non-judgmental unconditional positive regard, to help my client with exploring and overcoming life’s challenges. The therapeutic process is meant to be an empowering and enlightening experience. As a therapist, I meet my client in a dark, confusing place and we journey together to a place of peace and inner well-being.

My favored therapeutic approaches are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, though I do not subscribe strictly to those.
In a world that throws all sorts of demands, challenges, and difficulties at us, we might often feel like we are being pulled in many different directions. These demands may come from others, society, or even yourself, and the discomfort may eventually result in things like depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Figuring out how to move forward can be painful, frightening, and even seem overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure of where to start. I’d like to collaborate with you in envisioning the path you can take through hardships, and how you can achieve your goals.

My focus in therapy is to help individuals and couples increase their level of self-acceptance and their ability to engage and connect in love, sex, and intimacy. I believe that life is messy and that everyone's situation is a product of their environment, experiences, knowledge, and previous decisions. I gravitate to Solution Focused based therapy with a touch of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques.

My theoretical foundation is Coginitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
No one enjoys feeling trapped, incapable of escape, and unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is all the more true when the bonds of our entrapment are made up of our mind, our relationships, and our circumstances. While there is a limit to what each person has control over in their lives, many have control over far less than what they are capable of. My goal is to help you increase your power over yourself, closing the gap between where you are and where you could be.

My approach when meeting and treating new clients is simple: you are not alone. We will start there. I work with individuals, couples, and families that find themselves struggling with relationships, anger, depression, hopelessness, addictions of all sort, anxiety and everything in between. I want to walk alongside my clients to help them find their true selves and find meaning in whatever they do and whoever they intend to be. I use person-centered, cognitive-behavioral techniques, alongside skills building and mindfulness.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
