Abandonment / Abortion recovery / Anger management / Domestic violence intervention / Divorce care / Self care / Foster / Adoption adjustment challenges / Financial problems / Grief & loss / Interpersonal relationships / Marriage & family / Parenting issues / Premarital counseling / Pornography use / Prison / parole rehabilitation.
My typical counseling approach, and that of my colleagues at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, is anchored firmly and unapologetically in the Christian world-view. We do so with a clear, unwavering theistic paradigm that acknowledges God's sovereignty in all things, as He is intimately interested in, and responsive to, each person and all they experience. Therefore, unless otherwise directed by the client, our approach will inherently involve the use of biblical revelation and the principles found therein, when ever appropriate and applicable. The Christ centered world view is paramount to my approach to healing.

My specialties include pre-marital and marital counseling, life stages and transitions, grief and loss, stress and anxiety, young adults, and existential crises and questions.
Accepting new clients. Limited evening and weekend hours available in person. Telehealth other times. Supervised by Dr. Misti Sparks, LMFT-S. I really enjoy working with couples. I have experience with addiction, adolescents, young adults, and I have walked with many people through crises, loss, and big life changes. I believe stuff from our past - family of origin issues, abuse, trauma, grief, etc. - shows up in and affects our present. I hope therapy helps people come to terms with the past, and address concerns of the present, so they can have a healthier and happier future.

I have experience in populations who are impacted by grief and loss, trauma, sexual abuse.
Different phases in life can feel stressful, anxiety-provoking, or nearly defeating. Finding a counselor can feel like a difficult step, but a step in the positive direction for growth and more self-compassion and understanding. Finding a counselor who can create a supportive and safe environment for growth is essential. Whether it is due to life adjustments such as, changes in relationships or your environment that are causing feelings of anxiety, stress or depression, it is essential for a counselor to establish a role that is conducive for growth, safety, and trust. Becoming a client's advocate and support is a crucial.

Life sometimes brings us to our knees. We all need support from time to time because connection is a necessity, not just a nice thought. Whether you are dealing with a fresh loss or finally ready to face the pain of the past, I would be so honored to be a witness to your story and to help you find your way. My own journey through loss and trauma has gifted me with a depth to sit with others in their darkest moments and listen, really listen. I believe in your capacity to heal and grow and I can help you learn to trust yourself.

Are you a woman or female adolescent feeling stuck in past behaviors or mindsets, frustrated from unmet expectations, or overwhelmed from experiencing a major life transition or loss? Are you struggling with burn out, stress, or anxiety? Does your life look fine from the outside, but on the inside you are struggling with fear, depression, or a pregnancy or postpartum mental health complication? You have come to the right place. In our world, it is increasingly difficult to live a life of peace, joy, and mental wellness. As women, we carry so much with us in our day-to-day lives, both what is seen and unseen.

I’ve helped people who struggle with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma (past or present), bullying, relationship issues, anger, substance abuse, transitional phases, divorce, grief/ loss, and negative habitual patterns.
I’m a bilingual therapist who helps individuals seeking to grow cognitively, emotionally, relationally, and/or spiritually. At one point or another, people will experience seasons of discomfort, feeling stuck, or general dissatisfaction with an area of life. I help people untangle these confusing seasons and make sense of this particular growing stage.

I’ve had the honor of helping people in a wide range of settings for more than 15 years, using evidence-based counseling approaches to overcome depression, anxiety, grief, substance abuse, trauma, and other issues.
As depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health issues get bigger, our lives get smaller. They weigh us down, isolate us, and make even simple things seem difficult. Frustration, shame, and confusion from the constant struggle can add to the weight we are already carrying. Friends and loved ones may inadvertently make things worse by offering advice or trying to make us feel better. We put off seeking help because we feel guilty, embarrassed, or don’t want to burden people (especially when we are the "Strong" one who usually helps others). It can happen to anyone. The good news is that treatment works and therapy helps!

As a therapist I primarily work with women and teens who are struggling with and walking through anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, relational conflict, trauma, depression, over control, and low self esteem.
In life we can experience many ups and downs that present challenges and hardships. Our stories are constantly being influenced by many different factors. I believe that healing and growth can come from healthy and safe relationships. In counseling I seek to provide a space where you can process your pasts, learn to live in the present, and moving closer to the future you desire. As a counselor I seek to walk alongside my client in their journey towards acceptance, understanding, and change in a safe and encouraging environment.

Normal people have mental health problems, just like they have physical health problems. Honesty and openness are key components of counseling. It is really important to find someone with whom you feel comfortable and in whom you have confidence & trust. The best way to do that is to meet with the therapist in person to see if they are a good fit for you. My primary role is to serve as an objective consultant who uses his training and expertise to help people grow, change & reach their goals. A client's goals are my goals in working with them.

I understand how hard it can be to find help. You want someone to hear you, validate your feelings, and give you the tools you need to make your relationship successful, all in a nonjudgmental environment. I love helping my clients have healthier relationships. As a Gottman trained counselor, I can help you break down the walls that have been created in your relationship that divide you and your significant other by utilizing research based techniques. I use the Gottman Connect assessments with couples, which measure success or struggles in key areas such as friendship, intimacy, conflict resolution, household chores, & parenting.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
