We also collaborate with coaches, managers, family and other sports-related professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, trainers, dietitians, chiropractors, and other wellness practitioners.
Sports challenges are unique. Understanding the connection between mind and body, and the role played by attitude, emotions, and perspective in achieving excellence is just as important as physical training. Our therapists are specifically trained on the nuances of working with athletes and their issues, which may include: sports performance & anxiety, injury & recovery, body image & eating disorders, post- sports transition, trauma, competition. We know disappointment is not failure. It is the opportunity to move forward into success, much like the mythical Phoenix rising above 'what is' to achieve 'what can be.'

Even if sports isn’t your thing, my goal is to provide a space for you to be yourself without judgment and promote empowerment and change from within.
Hey there! I’m Tori and I’m a therapist with a passion for guiding others to personal fulfillment. Health and wellness have been something I’ve had a fond interest for and experience in most of my life. While we like to consider health as pertaining to our body, the mind is our most powerful muscle. I like to think our minds and bodies link together to shape us into who we are! My approach is client-centered in nature, meaning it’s all about you and every aspect of you! Together we’ll collaborate on making life’s difficulties less challenging and becoming the best version of yourself.

I help you to change habits, feelings and thoughts that aren't supporting you right now, using the power of your subconscious mind. My clients usually come to me when something is getting in the way of their feeling good or doing well. It could be to stop smoking or another 'bad' habit, a weight issue, under-performance in sports or school, stress or frustration at work or at home, relationship challenges from the past or in the present, or simply stop doing what isn't working and start doing what is, making it easy and automatic within the mind.

After many years of experience in sport. Starting out as a youth and working my way through the ranks of amateur, Division I student-athlete, and ultimately a professional athlete, I can relate to the many pressures athletes and other competitive individuals face. I do not believe in the one shoe fits all theory.

As athletes, it's easy to forget that if we don't mind our mental health, we can feel detached from ourselves, team, and loved ones. In the world of athletics, this happens all too often. Sometimes, we can turn to friends, family, and mentors to help us turn it around. Other times, we need additional help. As a former Division 1 & Professional athlete, as well as a coach at the club and collegiate levels, I provide a safe and empathetic space for athletes, coaches, and their families to work through challenges. After beginning this work at Baylor Athletics, I strive to continue investing in wellness for the athletic community.

Are you an athlete constantly worried about your sport performance? Have you recently been injured and find your mood has taken a nose dive as you wait for your body to heal, afraid you will not return to the same level of fitness as before? Are body image issues or your relationship to food having a negative impact on your sport? Or maybe you are at the end of your sport career, struggling to let it go and confused about your identity outside of your sport. Have you turned to substances to cope? Is your team less cohesive and more conflicted, losing focus and competing more with each other than against your actual opponents?

Despite working hard and achieving goals, life is hard. When my clients first come in, they are frustrated things aren’t going the way they would like. You know life can be better but nothing seems to be improving, even with hard work. You feel like you’re failing, and your confidence is tanking. You worry that your problems aren’t important enough and have thought that people like you don’t ask for help. Or maybe you're in constant pain and no doctor has been able to provide you with any relief. You feel stuck. You may even feel like you deserve to suffer. Feeling alone and discouraged is hard.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
