I enjoy and have extensive training working with individuals experiencing chronic pain and various other physical health ailments.
The saying, "It is the relationship that heals," is of central focus with my work with clients. I aim to accompany them as they gain insight into their situation and who they are as an individual. This results in added options in managing and enhancing life. We know that problematic areas are multi-determined and multi-layered. Examining and understanding the inter relatedness of all the forces of life allows for overall growth and symptom reduction. This process is a powerful ingredient that spurs lasting change across life stages, relationships and the overall experience of life.

Great experience in collaborative work with primary physicians and psychiatrists for abuse, chronic illness, and pain management clients.
Currently accepting daytime appointments only. Evenings are full. Life happens and change happens, whether we want it to or not, and sometimes we need some support and guidance to weather these changes. I act as a professional guide through those rough times. Through therapy, change can become an exciting, growth provoking process that creates stronger relationships. My motto has always been "Many roads lead to recovery". It is of utmost importance that all clients be educated, empowered, and make informed choices about the next step in their lives.

As a Clinical Social Worker, I want to make therapy accessible to as many people as possible. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work from TWU in 2015 and a master’s degree in social work from the UT of Arlington in 2016. I first became interested in social work after volunteering at a domestic violence shelter for women. Through this experience I learned the importance of having support, community involvement, and healing. Overall, I have worked primarily in nursing homes, hospice, and PHP/IOP mental health settings. However, my deep passion for therapy comes from witnessing firsthand the benefits that come along with it.

Despite the vast amounts of challenges that life may throw our way, I truly believe that mental flexibility and perseverance may be cultivated by anyone who would seek it. It allows one to bend in the winds of change without breaking, while adjusting and evaluating new wisdoms and perspectives that may be applied to one's life situations. The mind of an individual can be as flexible as one's ability to imagine it to be, when given the support and permission to do so through my integrative and pragmatic approach to therapy.

My main goal is to establish a strong foundation of trust. Trust is so key! It enables you to be bolder in facing your every defense. It allows for a healthy partnership to be created, so that we can objectively look at the situation at hand, heal and grow together. This is a two-way street. I love seeing my patients thrive and come out so much stronger.

Sometimes, life happens, and we experience heartaches, anxieties, broken promises, betrayals, conflicts, disillusionment or we feel alone and abandoned. At such times, we need someone we can trust with our deepest fears and concerns; someone to listen to us with respect, someone to lean on for clarity, guidance, and support in a way that strengthens us and improve our sense of purpose. It is scary enough reaching out to a counselor, but even more frightening is the challenge of finding the right counselor to trust with your concerns.

Every day, it is important for me to remember that with each client I see, I may be the only person in their life capable of both hearing and holding their pain.
I believe that everyone has a story and it deserves to be heard. My approach to counseling is to empower the client while maintaining a therapeutic and professional relationship. I believe that the counselor should not work harder than the client and the client should not work harder than the counselor. I will work hand in hand with the client, toward goals that are appropriate to their situation.

With 20 years of experience, I’ve helped countless individuals confront anxiety, grow from pain, and believe in themselves—always with warmth and without judgment.
Do you struggle with anxiety, obsessive thinking, or the impact of trauma that affects your relationships, your work, or belief in yourself? Do you feel exhausted and overwhelmed by getting stuck in your head and wondering if you will ever be good enough? Do you wish that your confidence could be better? Now more than ever, people are feeling uncertain about how to care for themselves and everyone around them, especially if you didn’t have the example of how to do this growing up. I offer experienced, trauma informed, supportive therapy so you can move beyond the panic and embrace your own power.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
