Do you need help dealing with traumatic experiences, a challenging upbringing, or complex family dynamics? Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, or feeling stuck in life? As a parent, are you seeking advice on communicating better with your young adult or teen child? Do you need guidance on setting boundaries or navigating co-parenting? Perhaps your teenager is dealing with strong emotions, OCD thoughts, social anxiety, depression, school pressure, suicidal thoughts, self-esteem issues, or self-harm. Or maybe your family needs help building stronger connections and improving communication.

Counseling does not dictate one way to be or feel. Here there is no judgement, only support and guidance as we face your reality together, process any difficult or confusing matters within a safe space, make sense of your own unique story, and establish personal well-being in healthy ways that work for you. I have overcome obstacles concerning physical disability, grief, stress, anxiety, and financial conflict. Mental illness is not the only cause for counseling. If you are experiencing distress in any amount do not be afraid or ashamed to seek help. Everyone requires assistance at times and there is not always someone available.

As a therapist, former school teacher, and mom, I am deeply invested in the emotional well-being of our young people. My greatest goal in counseling is to give children, teens, and young adults the tools to cope with life's challenges as well as the confidence in themselves to know that they can. Struggles with anxiety, depression, negative self-esteem, academic/work pressures, anger, and family/friendship/relationship issues can all seem that much more overwhelming when we are young. I am passionate about helping young people and families manage these issues now, and helping to set them up for success as they grow.

Have you or your child experienced something terrifying? Or perhaps there's not one harrowing memory that stands out, but a lifetime of painful experiences. Other times, children, teens, and adults may struggle with anxiety or worries that they can't trace back to any particular event. My practice offers a haven when life feels out of control and provides support for adults and children to heal from anxiety and trauma. I see Houston-based clients in person and via telehealth, and am credentialed through PSYPACT to provide telehealth to clients in 20+ other states.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
