Our conversations examine early life experiences in order to understand current behaviors and relational patterns.
I am a Licensed MFT who supports adults, couples, parents, and groups of friends invested in personal growth, developing stronger interpersonal relationships, and healing from trauma. I support clients who are very excited by new projects but can’t get their life organized, are hard on themselves and and have a strong inner critic, never feel happy or satisfied with their accomplishments, struggle to say no to others and REALLY dislike conflict, are stuck in cycles of conflict in relationships, spend hours engaging in rituals to try to soothe fears/anxieties, and those who desperately want to parent differently but don't know how.

I help individuals better understand their own internal processes to address relational issues and life's challenges.
My philosophy of therapy is that each person has a unique life path. While much of the time we can navigate confidently on our own, sometimes we encounter situations that make life difficult. Therapists are change agents. My role as your therapist is to work with you to explore your life and set goals you want to achieve. Over our sessions, we will work together to explore areas and sort through your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The counseling process is not without risks; however, the good news is that the benefits can include a greater overall sense of happiness, fulfillment, and satisfaction.

I am guided by relational-cultural theory which believes that we grow through and towards connection with people in our lives.
My clients typically find themselves stuck in transition, wanting to get to know themselves more deeply and ready to explore what is coming next on their horizon. I enjoy working with people who may be seeking self-reflection and a brave space where they can reconnect with their personal story and 'spark' for guidance on their journey. I also offer play therapy for children ages 3-10. Play therapy sessions provide an opportunity for kiddos to engage in and practice self-regulation skills, creative problem-solving, improved self-esteem, as well as developing healthy coping habits.

Hi! My name is Sofia, and I provide systemic supervision for LMFT Associates and LPC Associates in Texas. If you are (a) interested in learning more about systems theory and relational approaches and/or (b) you are looking for a more "high-touch" supervisor, someone who will invest time in building a relationship with you as both a human and a clinician, we could be a great fit. From the very beginning, I offer lots of resources (guidance about navigating work dynamics, mentoring, marketing, continuing education) and I help build up my supervisees' confidence, helping them learn to market and promote their skillset. :)

You are one-of-a-kind. And so, beginning with our first meeting, I will be sure that I clearly understand you and your unique needs. Then, as your therapist, I will work to help you establish and achieve the goals that are immportant to you. Effective psychotherapy supports the emotional healing that leads to wellbeing. My approach includes what I call " relational reflective listening and speaking". It's a process that developes and nurtures the deep respect I have for my patients. In our conversations you and I together will discover new possibilities, new hope that heals the heart.

I know that I have a keen ability to assess relational dynamics and move towards CHANGE! I do not like wasting time (or that of clients).
I see clients in Alabama, Florida and Texas. It is my honor to walk alongside people who have committed to the change they want to experience in their lives. I have had the privilege of working with clients for over 15 years. To me, one of the most important aspects of therapy is the FIT between the client and therapist. Our first goal will be to ensure that you feel comfortable with me and that I am inviting you into a trustworthy space for our work. I will be honest - therapy with me will be work, but it will always be done with compassion and care. Life is not easy, but finding a good therapist to walk alongside you should be!

As a therapist specializing in relationships and sexual challenges, I believe there is so much power in vulnerability, especially when it comes to talking about sexual and relational concerns.
Walking through life and relationships is such a complex experience that naturally breeds unique challenges. I believe that we all need and deserve a space to reflect on how our experiences impact us as individuals and in our relationships. I take pride in creating a space free of judgment so that you can feel safe exploring your challenges and strengths with authenticity. Being vulnerable can be difficult.

With a background in evidence-based treatments, I use an integrative framework where I blend behavioral and relational therapeutic approaches to support change.
Taking that first step is huge and finding the right therapist fit is important. I am passionate about helping adult clients navigate life’s stressors. Many of my clients struggle with identifying and validating their emotional experiences, which impacts all areas of their lives. I work collaboratively with my clients as they learn to cope with life changes, relationship struggles, grief and loss, and complex family relationships. As you learn to better understand yourself and your current coping style, we will work together to develop new strategies to support the struggles that brought you to therapy.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
