I naturally work from a strengths-based, client-centered perspective and feel that collaboration and rapport are key components in the therapeutic process. My goal is to help clients heal and flourish in their lives. Through deeper emotional exploration, things that seem to keep getting us "stuck" can be examined and worked through, resulting in true healing and change. In our sessions, I work with my clients in exploring thoughts, emotions, experiences, relationships, behaviors, etc. and together we work towards a healthier and happier life.

My desire is to work with anyone who is ready to heal from the hurts of their past. I want to help you discover and appreciate the inner strength and resilience that has brought you this far, and release the defensive and coping mechanisms that are no longer working for you.

Are you feeling stuck or not listened to in your relationships? Are you finding yourself having the same arguments? Does it feel like you and your partner are speaking different languages? Or do you simply have a feeling that something isn’t working, that you’re disconnected from your partner or loved ones? Set yourself and your relationship up for success by engaging in relational therapy. Together we can understand why you’re both feeling stuck in your relationship and work to create new, healthier communication cycles. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Narrative Therapy which helps ground and facilitate this process.

Hello, I'm Brearley, (Rhymes with Dearly!) I have over 20 years experience working in the mental health field. I moved to Austin from Los Angeles in 2015 to work as the counselor at St. Andrew's Episcopal School. Prior to my Texas move, I worked with youth and adults in Los Angeles and San Francisco in private practice, inpatient, nonprofit, and school settings. I strive to provide a space for all people to feel safe, respected, and heard. I work with both individual clients and their families, and have limited spaces for sliding scale appointments for those who are not able to afford my fee.

You keep up with your responsibilities, but just barely. The weight of anxiety, depression or panic attacks is dragging you down. You may continue to be bothered by issues from your childhood. You see yourself as competent, professional and put together. It feels hard to be struggling. You think, "This isn't me" and "Why can't I snap out of it?" You've finally decided to seek help.

I am a therapist trained to listen, nurture and work with you. This might be repairing relationships, healing from trauma, recovering from addiction, managing anxiety or depression. I see clients both face to face in my office as well as online within the state of Texas through HIPAA-compliant confidential video. Clients come to therapy when life is not working. Joining with a therapist allows patterns to be investigated and altered, insight to be gained and distress to be tolerated. With guidance, clients set goals for therapy and I work to meet those goals. They are a benchmark for progress.

Sometimes we all need extra support or a safe place to turn when life seems overwhelming or confusing. Therapy can offer that support and provide a place to talk about things that may be difficult to share with anyone else. Whether you are struggling with life changes, feelings of sadness and anxiety, a sense of "stuckness", or ready to heal past traumas, therapy can and does provide relief and a new way of living.

How do you define adulthood in a modern world? No one tells you how to be an adult. Or maybe too many people tell you too many things. And how do you know when you’ve gotten there? The answer to this question is different for everyone. It’s not surprising you’re feeling lost, confused, anxious, or depressed thinking about adulthood. Our brains continue to develop well into our mid-20s, yet society expects us to have things figured out by then. I know I definitely didn’t! People wait much longer to meet the milestones of previous generations, and then are just expected to know how to navigate everything in the meantime.

Deciding to pursue therapy can be a daunting task, and I work with many clients who have mixed feelings about being in counseling. For some, coming to counseling is a welcomed relief and having a space that is all your own can bring comfort. Others find that it feels scary and overwhelming to seek help, and they may not know where to begin. Whatever your feelings about therapy may be and at whatever point you may be in your process, I’m here to help.

My focus as a therapist is on healing trauma through the attachment lens. When defining trauma, I like to quote Gabor Mate who states that Trauma is not what happens to you, it is what happens inside you. The traumatic event may have been the abandonment that happened years ago, but the trauma itself is the crippling fear inside when someone we love doesn't respond quickly enough. Unfortunately, we can't change the past, but we Can change the ways it affects our present and our future. I hope to offer you closure by helping you understand the How and Why of your trauma.

Childhood trauma and attachment wounds often show up later in life as roadblocks to connection. As a somatic IFS therapist, I hold space for my clients to get to know these stuck parts and offer tools and strategies to increase embodiment and nervous system regulation. My niche is supporting neurodivergent individuals and their relationships, particularly around sexual and gender identity exploration, pleasure, and dating. I am an LGBTQIA+, Kink, and PolyA affirming therapist.
