I’ve been trained in Neuropsychological trauma through the lens of the Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) as well as TF-CBT, CBT, EMDR, experiential therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experience, and humanistic psychotherapy.
Do you often find yourself minimizing or ignoring feelings like anxiety or sadness because they’re too difficult to deal with? Or telling yourself you shouldn’t complain because you have good things in your life? Do you find yourself checked out? Avoiding people, events, and conversations? Feeling our emotions can be overwhelming and, without help, can lead us to get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze. To better understand your past and what brought you here, we’ll reflect on the role stress has played in your life. You’ll be equipped with the necessary coping skills to be present and enjoy your life. Let’s begin–I’m here with you.

Some of these approaches include; acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and experiential therapy.
Therapists take on a number of different roles in their work. I predominately view my role as guide. The majority of my sessions are conducted through a virtual platform but I also offer in-person sessions in an outdoor setting. One of the goals of this practice is to help clients discover a deeper sense of self and acceptance. Another intention of this practice practice is to help clients build and maintain the necessary tools they already have existing within themselves, and lead clients to new discoveries of living life in a more balanced and enjoyable way.

I incorporate experiential therapy when talk therapy isn't enough. Clients will not only gain self-awareness during our sessions but will also begin to understand the "why" that influences their behaviors. I work with human beings who have human struggles, pain, and imperfections. I love helping people re-connect to their inner selves so that they can get clearer on their needs, feelings, and bodily cues, which inform everything we do. Do you find yourself in the role of helper, caretaker, or even people pleaser, struggling with anxiety, depression, or paralysis? Do you want to explore your patterns, or why you get so stuck in your head with doubt, guilt, or shame? If so, entering into a therapeutic relationship where you do not have to be alone and can be witnessed and held with warmth and care can really help.

Relationships are a lot of work, and they can be your greatest source of joy. I find that couples today are carrying more than we were ever designed to carry on our own. This is why I feel so passionate about supporting people that want to grow their love together. I believe we are all lifelong learners when it comes to relationships and that marriage and parenthood are designed to keep us humble.

You deserve to feel connected and safe in your closest relationships. It is lonely, painful, and frustrating when those relationships aren't going as you'd like. You may be confused about how to help a child who is struggling. You might wonder if you're making the right choices for your child and you may even worry that you're a bad parent. Or, maybe you feel disconnected from a partner. You long to feel close to the person you care about, but years of hurt and bottled up emotion make it difficult to know where to start.

Have you ever felt like no matter what you do, it's never quite enough? Striving to please others while your own sense of self dims? It's a scenario all too recognizable for those who tirelessly chase perfection, habitually place others ahead of themselves, and wrestle silently with their own sense of self-worth. These patterns typically arise in response to your past experiences, serving as shields that helped you adapt and cope during your childhood years. Yet, there comes a point when you realize these patterns no longer harmonize with your present well-being as an adult. This is where my path intersects with yours.

Experiential Therapy
How does experiential therapy work?
Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.
Is experiential therapy evidence-based?
Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.
How long does experiential therapy last?
The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
Does experiential therapy help with trauma?
Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
