My broad educational background, specialized training and lived experience integrate to provide a relationship and environment where people can compassionately discover how even the smallest aspect of their experience fits into the larger context of their lives.
I believe that therapy should be a supportive, collaborative and challenging experience of self-discovery and self-acceptance where all emotions, ideas and issues can be explored and new patterns can unfold. Primarily working with adults, I specialize in working with individuals who may have had difficult childhoods and are wondering how those past experiences may be contributing to their current struggles, conflicts, stagnation or chaos.

I take a non-judgmental and inquisitive approach while helping individuals, families, and couples to discover their inner strengths.
Change is inevitable. Pain is probable. Suffering is optional. Many of us already have the strength to manage change but need a little help finding the courage and confidence. That is why I take a collaborative, flexible, transformational, dynamic, and strength-based approach to empower clients to face life’s circumstances. I could help equip you with just tools to tackle your personal and professional obstacles or I can work alongside you and through dialogue help you to develop your own tools for long term sustainable strategies and an independent and purposeful life.

I enjoy working with individuals and couples.
Welcome! Finding a therapist that is a good match can be a struggle. I have experience in treating a wide range of symptoms from anxiety to trauma. The therapy models that I use most commonly are attachment based. I believe that no matter what you have experienced in life, you are able to be your own change agent in your life. I currently see clients on telehealth from Texas, Montana, Florida and Washington State.

I offer support for individuals and couples navigating challenges of life, some of which are absolutely devastating.
Pain can be a powerful motivator. I know you can't imagine this right now, but someday, you will be so grateful for the discomfort, because without it, you may never have had the motivation to ask for help... Asking for help is not a weakness. It is so important that you recognize that there is no reason for you to have to "do this alone". I am trauma-informed and can help you recognize the steps towards your healing journey.

In relational work, we focus on how the relationship can support each partners' own journey toward wholeness, and explore what makes the relationship meaningful.
Disturbing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, disorientation, and explosive anger may be signs that important, but unseen, parts of ourselves need attention. I use a depth psychological approach to help clients develop greater awareness of who they are and what they need, so that they can use their symptoms as pathways to a more meaningful relationship with themselves and the world around them.

I offer one-on-one counseling, couples therapy, and extended format sessions of 2-3 hours in duration.
As a relational therapist, my approach is based in the understanding that secure relationships with ourselves and others are essential to our emotional well-being. In my practice, I use the framework provided by the field of interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) to explain how our brain, body and relationships work together to create our mind – or lived experience. Because these three systems are different for every one of us, they interact – or integrate – differently, providing us with our own unique take on the world – and on ourselves and our relationships with others.

Change in our lives is inevitable. The transition periods between times of stability in our lives are more common then we often care to admit. These transitions can trigger stress, anxiety, depression and other current and long standing psychological issues. I started my clinical practice in 1989 in Austin, Texas and specialize in helping adult individuals and couples who are experiencing transitions due to significant changes occurring in their lives.

Learning why we do what we do is important, but then comes that key question of what to do with that information. My goal is to create a safe space for self-discovery, but also an active space, a brave space in which we explore new perspectives and frameworks for seeing. I specialize in relationship conflict, stagnation/burnout, depression, anxiety, religious trauma, and those who wish to work with and understand the different parts of themselves through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) perspective.

I specialize in helping those with anxiety and trauma, both in individual and couples counseling.
Like most of my clients I have my own share of childhood trauma. I’ve had to deconstruct childhood messages of not being good enough. I’ve had to learn to set boundaries and learn that I’m not required to put others' needs above my own. I think learning that I'm loved and worthy, even when other's are angry with me has been the most difficult lesson of all. The very path that many of you are starting out on, I have walked myself. This journey isn't about reliving your worst memories, it's about taking away their power. I’ve worked hard to reclaim my own story, now I want to help you reclaim yours.

Are you struggling with communication and connection in your relationships? Do you feel misunderstood and frustrated after conversations with your loved ones? Disconnection in our relationships can leave us feeling isolated and lonely - even when our loved one is sitting right next to us. I am skilled at helping others heal their “relational wounds", strengthening their connection and understanding of themselves and other important people in their lives. Counseling with me can be described as a journey to heal past wounds. The best part is, this kind of work isn't just for couples, but also for parents, families, or individuals.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
