Hello, I am Mesha Holliday, LCSW, ADC. My approach to therapy would be Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic. I firmly believe that the way you think affects the way you behave (cognitive behavioral), and that the past has a great impact on current behaviors (psychodynamic). I have worked with a wide variety of populations, however, if I had to choose specific areas of practice I would say depression, grief counseling, anger management, trauma, anxiety, family therapy, and substance use.

Your relationship with yourself and others cause you to suffer in ways that your friends can't fully comprehend. Feelings of failure, insecurity, anxiety and depression have left you feeling like a stranger in your own life. You question yourself, wondering if you've done something wrong... whether there's something you should be doing differently. Friends and family are trying to be helpful with their advice, but it often leaves you feeling worse. Some days you have hope and others you feel you are in true despair. You are desperate to make sense of it all, and you don't know where to turn.

Everyday life can be overwhelming full of obstacles and challenges. Sometimes we can feel trapped, helpless, or alone. These feelings and thoughts are natural, however if not properly managed they can lead to emotional disturbance and unhealthy behaviors. But we have the power to take control of our lives. With the help of guidance, insight and self-awareness, it can be done. I believe that we are all humans with the ability to love ourselves and make positive change. Let me help you adjust to life changes, improve your relationships, manage stress, cope with loss, and most importantly become more resilient.

Our resilient spirit helps us get through many difficulties and obstacles throughout our lives, but sometimes we come across something that can threaten to hurt us, hold us back or even keep us stuck. Engaging in the therapeutic process can help alleviate these feelings of overwhelmedness, hopelessness or fear.

There are times in life when, for reasons potentially unknown initially, we experience negative events. I believe we have the choice to let these experiences define who we are as a person, or learn what we can and use them to continue our journey. These experiences can leave a person with more questions than answers and a mix of feelings and thoughts. I want to help you move toward a clearer understanding, learning how to handle difficult emotions and challenging times. I believe that you have an amazing capacity to change, grow, and move toward the purpose for which you were created. I view this process as a journey of discovery.

I believe that many of the problems individuals face can be worked through by gaining increased insight and knowledge about oneself. I also believe individuals heal themselves and often just need an objective, caring presence to help them take the first step. I specialize in both therapy and psychological assessment and frequently work with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, OB/GYNs, and other physicians in the collaborative treatment of patients.

I provide a safe space for you to explore, heal, and flourish; a space without judgement or expectation. In this space my priority is to make sure you feel seen, heard, and understood. You need someone to meet you where you are in your unique journey and sit beside you as you move through the suffering.  How will we do this, you ask? I believe in focusing on strengths while challenging unhealthy and unhelpful behaviors that interfere with living your best life. No pain is too small or too big for us to process and find healing comfort.

Being a teenager can be challenging, especially during a pandemic. Being isolated from friends, spending more time at home and going back to school are just a few stressors. I have learned through my own personal experiences, what it looks like to listen to a persons issues, needs and goals. I have experience both in my professional career as well as through my own mental health journey what it means to be a person who actively listens. I understand there are times when insight is needed but there is also value in having someone simply listen.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
