Sometimes the pain can feel overwhelming and we don’t see an out. The path to feeling better and having the life we truly want is hidden from our view or feels impossibly out of reach. Many of my clients have felt stuck for so long that they have become unrecognizable to themselves and others in their lives. They may find themselves in a toxic relationship, work environment, state of health and often are in that place of utter helplessness. My passion is in helping you reconnect, heal, grow, expand, and build the capacity within you to deal with life without it destroying you any longer.

I work with people who want help improving their relationships, or who want relief from the pain of their self-criticism, loneliness, or overwhelming feelings—usually some combination of these. Some of the people I work with want to feel more fully alive. Many of them want to learn how to deepen their connections with others and feel more at ease just being themselves in the world. I specialize in working with people who experienced relational trauma early in life and want help learning to exist fully and connect with others in the present.

I have knowledge and practice of many prominent counseling theories and will adapt my counseling approach to your needs and goals. I tend to implement a solution-focused approach in order to not only focus in on what your goals are, but also to get you to those goals as quickly as possible. While we develop solutions for your goals, I tend to think outside of the box and try to find unique solutions that are catered to you individually.

The struggle is real! Life can be challenging, overwhelming, and at times, just plain difficult. The good news is, it does not have to be and you don't have to go it alone. My approach is to offer compassionate support in a nonjudgmental and empowering environment in which you are the expert on your experiences. The goal of therapy, I hope, is to empower you to appropriately deal with life events, reduce stress, and experience personal growth. I also hope therapy will allow for increased feelings of self worth, satisfaction in relationships and will lead to a more fulfilling life.

Howdy! I'm Kelsey, a fat, disabled, queer nonbinary writer, artist, and social worker. I use they/them pronouns. Are you looking for someone who will be with you every step of the way toward relief from anxiety and depression? Is your goal to thrive? Do you like to get a little existential? (And do you identify as a huge nerd?) I may be a good fit! The nuts and bolts of it is—as a therapist, I strive to build connection, a sense of safety, and a space where clients can relax into their most authentic selves. I work with kids, teens, adults 18+, and couples.

Welcome! I am a believer in living one's life deliberately; however, the day to day commitments, expectations, and challenges sometimes divert us from living the life we want for ourselves and loved ones. Building a strong healthy relationship with your therapist serves as an incredible catalyst for change in our lives. Building community helps us connect better to ourselves and enrich our everyday existence.

Life feels hard to cope with right now. Financial, health, political and environmental stressors seem to be everywhere and these stressors can look like anxiety, depression, overwhelm, insomnia, fatigue, or excessive rumination. It can be challenging to have the inner resources and capacity to cope with all that is going on and you may have tried or yearn for a simple solution that will make you feel better ASAP. Long-term wellness can happen but it takes time, effort, curiosity, openness and working with someone who is a good fit for you and your unique context, needs and goals.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
