The most rewarding thing I've been told by a client is, "They Get Me". I say this because my clients have been let down in the past by systems that failed to help or by other therapists who felt that they were beyond change. What I strive to create is an environment where clients feel they are valued, heard, and understood. The clients that tend to do best in my care are often neurodivergent or with diagnosed personality disorders due to how these conditions are chronically misunderstood. If you have tried standard therapies but still struggle to control your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors, I'd like to help.

Are you the person others go to for support? Are you unsure of who you are outside of others? Do you feel uncomfortable asking for help? I work with clients who have had to push their needs aside (loved ones of those struggling with mental illness or substance use issues, people in the helping professions, caretakers, etc.) often manifesting in anxiety, depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and low self-esteem. Together we will work to identify your values, needs, and desires and chip away at unhelpful narratives stemming from early life to make space to re-write ones that align with your values and your most authentic self.

Often times life feels overwhelming and in the overwhelm we can turn to unhealthy coping strategies to feel safe. What was supposed to just be a one time way to cope quickly turns into a daily practice that now feels paralyzing and you aren't sure how to stop. A lot of the clients I work with struggle to break these unhealthy patterns of coping and implement more adaptive ways to manage their struggles. I come alongside each of my clients to help them unpack the overwhelm and get to a place where they can access healthier ways to cope.

My name is Leslie. Raneri. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 20 years. As Brene Brown says, “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light. “

You’re here because you need help. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship dysfunction can stifle and hide the person you really are. You feel inhibited, pressured, and isolated, but throughout it all a a part of you knows that there is still something amazing within you. What stops you from being your authentic self when alone or around others? What stops you from knowing how to take care of yourself? This is what I can explore with you. I want to help you shed what is holding you back and illuminate pain that may be keeping you comfortably stagnant. I want the world to meet who you are.

Life gets overwhelming sometimes. Feeling like no one really gets us or what we’ve been through is a lonely place to be. And sometimes just that one new challenge on top of everything else makes us wonder if we might need to reach out for help. Take the plunge. In our work together, I will help ground and guide us in the therapy process, but your needs and goals will remain the priority. I work with adults and offer a safe platform to look deeper at what challenges you face and what will help you overcome them. Our connection in therapy helps you explore and strengthen the connection you have with yourself and those around you.

Hello and welcome! As a therapist, I use a psychodynamic relational approach valuing the unique needs and desires of each client. I strive to foster a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to share their own perspectives and emotions surrounding their past and present life experiences while also identifying, exploring, and challenging self-defeating beliefs. I strive to meet clients where they are in whatever season of life they are in. I also consider how multiple systems of oppression and structural inequalities impact my clients' wellbeing and the concerns they bring forth.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
