Every therapeutic relationship is unique and highly personal. The goal is to walk along the path of acknowledgment, compassion, growth, healing, and change in a safe supportive environment. It is in these moments that we can explore, discover, and develop. We focus on self-awareness, emotions, relationships, coping, and harnessing inner peace. Other areas of counseling may include focusing on responsibility, meaning of life, strengths, self-concept, acceptance, and change. As we walk this path, understand, I can do no work for you, but you do not have to do it alone.

I am a lifelong learner and I believe that the various difficulties we face as people are opportunities to learn, heal, and grow. In my counseling, I assist clients as they orient themselves to their situation and work alongside them to establish a path towards wellness. I may advise clients to complete inventories or seek medical treatment to facilitate their work and progress. I will approach individuals' religious/cultural differences and perspectives with curiosity and sensitivity. During counseling I may use Restoration Therapy, DBT skills, or EMDR to help clients.

I have worked with children and adults for 25+ years. In my practice, I provide an individualized written treatment plan to meet the client's needs. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). CBT focuses on changing an individual's thoughts in order to change his or her behavior and emotional state. It has been proven to be highly effective in many areas such as anxiety and depression. DBT is a modified form of CBT where clients are taught mindfulness (living in the moment), how to tolerate and cope with stress, regulate emotions and develop healthy interpersonal relationships.

I have witnessed the value of resilience through healing. In my practice, I work with clients to offer individualized treatment to who you are as person, rather than cookie cutter services. The stigma associated with therapy and mental health, especially in the minority communty is damaging. Our fear of looking “crazy”, especially in todays' society continues to hold us back. You are not crazy for getting the help you need. You deserve to heal. Your community needs you to heal so you can give back in a healthy way. Your healing is your community healing.
