You deserve to feel happy and fulfilled! Does today feel like a chore, just like yesterday? Are you worried that tomorrow will too. Do you lay there and hit snooze one last time hoping that you can get up so you're not late? Late to the job that doesn't fulfill those dreams and desires you had. The job that is just a means to an end, in an endless stream of means and ends. You want to escape these feelings of unhappiness, doubt, frustration, and hopelessness. You long to feel whole, complete, and satisfied with the ebbs and flows of life. Your desire to change is strong, but you're not sure where to start.

I won't listen and sit expressionless, only nodding occasionally during our time together. I am warm but more direct then that. I care deeply about people I work with. I seek to offer real help. I'm empathic, down to earth and passionate helping. We’ll define goals together. You’ll get feedback that’s helpful and sometimes challenging. Often getting to a better place is not all that complicated and therapy doesn't have to be an endless process that grinds on. Anger, anxiety, depression and addictions are some of things I help people with. There are others. Call me if you have questions. My passion is helping you get better now.

I work with adolescents and adults around areas of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Through the therapeutic relationship, as well as examining interpersonal relationships and family dynamics, we can better understand painful and difficult experiences. We work to identify motivations, reactions, patterns, and automatic assumptions. This understanding helps gently guide the healing process and empowers the individual to approach their own behaviors with curiosity rather than shame. I have a special interest in working with adolescent girls around issues of self-esteem, anxiety and identity.

I have worked with children and adults for 25+ years. In my practice, I provide an individualized written treatment plan to meet the client's needs. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). CBT focuses on changing an individual's thoughts in order to change his or her behavior and emotional state. It has been proven to be highly effective in many areas such as anxiety and depression. DBT is a modified form of CBT where clients are taught mindfulness (living in the moment), how to tolerate and cope with stress, regulate emotions and develop healthy interpersonal relationships.

As a counselor in the USAF for 20 years, I have engaged with individuals, couples, and families as they have worked to address such things as anxiety, depression, shame, vulnerability, phase of life issues, grief and loss, relationship concerns, communication and anger management.
"We cannot be taught wisdom, we have to discover for ourselves by a journey which no one can undertake for us, and effort which no one can spare us," M. Proust. I provide counseling for those who are seeking a journey of discovery. Often we find ourselves in a place where we do not want to be and we are not sure where we can turn for help. It is at these troubling times that we seek guidance and assistance. If you would like to start down a road of personal discovery and make positive changes in your life, contact me now to begin a new chapter in your life.

Life throw us challenges, big and small. And sometimes we need someone to help us along the way. Are you someone who is struggling with depression, anxiety, perinatal/postpartum, fertility issues, or low self esteem/self worth? Maybe you're struggling in your marriage/relationship or in relationships in general. Or maybe you're going through a life transition that isn't what you expected and/or is challenging. Either way, you deserve brighter days and a quality of life that is worth living.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
