I specialize in grief and loss, practicing from the belief that any barrier to mental wellness is ultimately attributed to some sense of loss.
Life has a unique way of presenting opportunities for growth and change. These opportunities manifest themselves as challenges that no matter how great or small, lead to a journey on what appears to be a dimly lit road less traveled. No matter how bleak or lonely the voyage, you can find hope in knowing you are not alone. Counseling is a way to shed light on your path. With grace, we can walk this journey together. We will form a comfortable and collaborative therapeutic relationship that will promote growth, healing and will strengthen your foundation of hope.

My mission is for you to leave our sessions knowing that what you're experiencing is NORMAL and NATURAL inside of grief.
Since the devastating loss of my father to cancer and suicide, I’ve been ignited with a passion to uplift and support men of color who face emotional pain and to empower survivors of suicide loss. As a grief companion who understands the depth of loss, I'm deeply committed to supporting you through the challenging path of grief. I understand that grief is complex and deeply personal, and I believe in the power of awareness, education, and authentic connection to help you navigate this healing journey.

Through our work together, you will be able to process these big, often overwhelming emotions related to your loss and find healthy ways to move forward in your life while, at the same time, honoring and integrating the memory and love of your loved one into your daily life.
I work with adults who are struggling with a sudden or anticipated loss or death of a loved one that has left them reeling, feeling alone, misunderstood, and confused within their grieving process. Clients struggling through grief need to be heard and not judged or have their pain minimized. My clients often struggle with feelings of guilt and self blame. But, it does not have to be that way, I will meet you wherever you are on your grief journey. Through our work together, you can get to a place of integrating the pain and the love you feel for your lost loved one. You can, once again, feel alive.

Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

My name is Tess with Therapy Central Dallas and I am accepting new clients online and in person. I love embarking on a mindful journey of self discovery with my clients. Maybe you have been through the ringer, and you’re ready to unpack all the chaos that has happened to you. Or perhaps you’ve reached a point where something’s gotta give, and you need a big change. Or, like most of us, you just need a safe space to let it all out. I enjoy providing long term therapy services to clients as they navigate their new path.

I am passionate about helping individuals embark on their journey towards healing and mental health stabilization. With several years of experience working in crisis stabilization, I understand first-hand how our environment shapes how we come to function. While taking a holistic approach to therapy, I believe we all have the tools and skills to overcome whatever it is we are dealing with.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
