The single most impactful experience in my life was therapy. I will never forget how it felt to have someone reach down and pull me up out of the water. The transformational experience of therapy is unlike any other. I am excited to offer that same experience to you.

I encourage a genuine attitude with self, other people and God in order to have authentic relationships. I use a respectful, direct and collaborative approach in my sessions and believe that interpersonal relationships are a key factor in successfully navigating life. Transitions and challenges can offer us an opportunity to find greater understanding of purpose, more meaningful relationships, and increased confidence and personal gratification. I understand how difficult the process of counseling can be, but I also know the rewards that come from true healing.

Feeling lost, or maybe you’re struggling with a big life change? No one is too far gone or “broken.” My goal is to help you to finish your past, be present for today, and make progress forward into your tomorrows. I enjoy the process of walking alongside my clients’ unique experiences when they feel that they may be at their lowest point. I strive to provide a positive and encouraging space for my clients to become aware of the issues in their paths, while also helping them to uncover the hidden tools that they have access to. One process I use with clients is Name it-Claim it-Tame it-Change it.

You've tried to stop using substances, engaging in problematic sexual behavior or viewing pornography on your own, but can’t. Your spouse, partner or other loved ones are hurting. They say they can't trust you anymore. Even worse, you feel you can't trust yourself. Your reality now consists of escalating feelings of failure, guilt, inadequacy and shame. And again, you turn to medicate and escape your reality. The vicious cycle continues. All you want is relief. Please know, hope and healing is possible.

Reaching out for help isn’t always easy but it’s the first step in change towards leading a life that feels authentic to you. I believe that change happens through insight, by learning how our experiences impact the way we view the world and ourselves. It is important to me to build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship to help you gain that insight and work on your goals.

Are you questioning if you are in an emotionally abusive relationship? Do you feel like your relationship is making you crazy? Being stuck in a toxic situation, especially with a person or people who lie and are manipulative, makes you doubt everything. When you’ve been in a bad situation for so long it can feel like there’s no way out. It is common to feel confused and physically and emotionally drained. The most common thing I hear from my clients is, "I don't trust my own decisions", "I am always second guessing myself", "I feel like I am walking on eggshells", " I'm exhausted everyday". Does this sound like you?

Life can be overwhelming, and we all need help at times. I provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where we work to resolve difficult situations and past trauma. I gather a comprehensive history to look for past issues that may be affecting your life currently. These events and experiences are processed using the coping skills you have now, and others you learn in therapy. We also look at your goals, your level of self-awareness, your perceptions, your relationships, and whether your needs, in every area of your life, are being met.

How does motivational interviewing work?
Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.
Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?
Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.
How long does motivational interviewing last?
Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.
What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?
In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
