Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists in Allen, TX
I use dialectical behavior therapy skills.
I have been in education for 35 years and served adolescents as a counselor for the past 20 years. My areas of interest include anxiety, panic attacks, grief and phobias that clients often experience. What I find most helpful to people is to provide a warm and safe place to express the feelings and experiences in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I also believe it is important to instill confidence in them. These days it seems the relationship between client and therapist is more important than ever and I hope to build such bonds.

Hello! I’m Caitlin and I am so glad you are here. I absolutely love the mind-body connection and believe that you cannot treat the mind apart from the body and spirit. I believe we often focus on healing physical symptoms without diving into root causes and what is going on inside of us. I am passionate about understanding ourselves as holistic beings made in the image of God, with the belief that our unique life experiences can have a significant impact on us in the here and now, but that Jesus gets the final word and real healing happens through Him.

Using Family Systems Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Therapy can be very helpful in addressing problems you may be having in your life. If you struggle with relationship problems, decision making, depression, anxiety, self esteem, impluse control, trauma, substance abuse, grief, addiction or life transitions; I can provide a neutral non-judgmental space to explore and resolve these issues. Many people believe they should be able to solve problems on their own and seek help often waiting until the situation has grown unmanageable. However, early interventions and proactive actions tend to lesson the impact of painful experiences, allowing you to move past problems more easily and quickly.

Through the use of evidence-based therapies specific to my patient’s needs such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy, biblical counseling, and DBT ( dialectical behavioral therapy).
Throughout my experience as a counselor, I have noticed that our shame is the foundational and often times our biggest barrier to success. My approach is to help client's identify and replace these shame-based thoughts and become more aware of how these thoughts impact the way they see themselves, others, and the world around them. Once you can view your authentic self as someone that is worthy, goals can be clearly defined, progress can be made, and healing can be obtainable. While this isn't the only consideration in counseling, it is one of great importance.

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
