We as humans aren't meant to go through difficult times alone. When your resources seem low, a therapist offers consistent, reliable opportunities to work toward your healing. I might be a good fit for you if you are looking for empowerment through creative expression. As an art therapist, I believe art and imagination can address our bodies' biological survival responses in ways rational thinking and talk therapy can't.

Therapy is hard work. It is also full of humor, humanity, clinical guidance, check-ins, a-ha moments, advocacy, and a sprinkle of magic I have been told "she will meet resistance with patience, gentleness, and freedom for you to exist exactly as you are" in the therapy room. You deserve to show up exactly as you are; all forms of you are always welcome. I've found when you show up as your most authentic self, the work can really begin. Asking for help may be the first step in calming the ongoing chaos.

Ashley is a Licensed Professional Counselor. As a native Tennesean, she earned both her Bachelor’s of Psychology and Master’s of Community Counseling from the University of Tennessee. Her professor once said, “Play is a child’s most natural language.” That phrase, along with her love of the children, solidified Ashley’s career path. A job opportunity called her to Texas where she fell in love with breakfast tacos, blue bonnets and wide open spaces. She worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital that exposed her to a variety of clinical diagnoses in the child and adolescent population.

Life is a constant process of change-and sometimes that change can seem so overwhelming that we may feel too stuck to move. I work with individuals who recognize that growth is needed; however, the fear of change can make us compare ourselves to others, silence us from saying what our heart needs to say, stop us from growing, and imprison us with the "what ifs". My job is to help you find your inner strength and voice to grow, break unhealthy habits, reach goals, and recover from the pain of your past.

Life can be overwhelming and we all need a little support sometimes. Work, family, relationships….it can be a lot to handle alone. Having a safe and supportive person to talk to can help ease the burden and assist in gaining a new perspective when there seems to be no way out. It takes a lot of courage to take that first step to seek help, so you can take pride in the fact that you are here now.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
