I help burned-out professionals and caregivers, anxious people with or without trauma, and people struggling with difficult relationships create purpose and meaning in their everyday lives. I know that mental and emotional challenges, while not always visible to an outside observer, can be incapacitating and that they often have a profound effect on a person’s ability to experience a fulfilling life. Therapy is about healing from painful past experiences, discovering strengths, challenging thinking, improving relationships, and ultimately creating new and rewarding ways of living.

Welcome! I love my job, because it allows me to help others on their journey towards healing. I find myself most commonly working with PTSD, faith transitions, anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I'm specially trained in EMDR, a method that is highly effective in treating all types of trauma. So much of our upbringings impact how we view ourselves in the world. That's why my counseling works to repair past hurts so we can repair the present.

Primarily I use EMDR therapy and psychoeducation to help individuals overcome their trauma.
You don't have to be crippled by anxiety, anger, fear, shame, and intrusive negative thoughts. These symptoms can destroy relationships and isolate you, limiting your ability to feel safe and calm. There is hope that you can move past these events, reconnect with loved ones, and feel happy again. Throughout my career, I have seen amazing transformation in people. It is absolutely inspiring to see clients improve their life and relationships, once they understand how thoughts and patterns of behavior effect their wellbeing.

Particularly, I find mind-body approaches instrumental in healing trauma via a “bottom up” approach.
Many individuals first come to my office feeling “stuck in the muck”, overwhelmed, burdened, hurt or alone, while others are seeking a witness to their pain and suffering, are in a state of immense life changes, or are experiencing challenges after surviving a traumatic event or a lifetime of traumatic exposure. No problem you are currently experiencing is too big. What is therapy like with me? I meet each individual, couple, or system where they are at, and do so with unconditional positive regard. You are the expert of you; as the therapist, I am here to learn and create a safe space for you to meet your unique therapy goals.

The challenges we face as individuals, as a community, and as a society can have a profound impact on the way we view the world, ourselves and others. Exposure to multiple adverse life experiences over time (experienced directly or in anticipation of adverse experiences) can progressively increase symptoms of anxiety, depression, clinical, and sub-clinical PTSD and even impact the state and health of our bodies. Adverse life experiences are often stored in the body and can be coded to our DNA. Somatic forms of therapy such as EMDR and Brainspotting help to adjust this lens by integrating and fully reprocessing adverse experiences.

Couples often long to feel close but get stuck in their problems. It can seem like there’s no way out of emotional conflicts, sexual difficulties, past mistakes in the relationship, or other issues. I believe in healing that gets to the root – healing that is deep, self-reflective, compassionate, honest, and real. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences, trauma, and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

The human mind can get stuck in negative emotions, beliefs, and other patterns which make it feel impossible to move forward in life. I specialize in interventions (particularly EMDR, ACT, and BWRT) that enable the mind to let release old patterns quickly and often permanently. I specialize in treating trauma and anxiety. But these same interventions work wonders with addictions, depression, and other serious problems.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
