I have a special interest in trauma treatment and am certified in the treatment of complex PTSD.
I have been a psychologist for over 30 years with a breadth of experience in a variety of clinical settings. I received extensive training in psychodynamic therapy, including studies at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute. This depth approach is especially helpful for individuals who have a pattern of difficulties in relationships or have personality issues that hold them back in their personal and professional lives. Individuals with long standing self-esteem issues often find a depth approach especially helpful as do individuals with anxiety and depression who have not been helped by other therapy approaches.

Anxiety and trauma aren't just part of my practice – they're my passion.
Feeling stressed these days is pretty common, but when it begins to impact your relationships, makes stepping out the door a challenge, or starts interfering with work or school, it's a clear signal to consider seeking support. Perhaps you're feeling stuck in the past, unable to move forward – that's a definite cue that it's time for some assistance. If you're noticing changes such as 'overthinking' everything, feeling angry, drinking or smoking more, avoiding friends & family, or experiencing physical symptoms due to anxiety, seeking help is incredibly important

Trauma-Trained; using modalities: Expressive Arts, Music, DBT-CBT (mindfulness), SFT (Solution/Strengths focused therapy), Logotherapy, Trauma and Social justice informed therapy, Somatic therapy (movement, yoga, breathwork), & holistic wellness.
Former Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, once wrote, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” As a mental health therapist associate from South Texas, I realize that therapy goes beyond the diagnosis realm and into a wider space of understanding, attunement, and healing. Renowned physician, Gabor Mate asserted that healing does not rely on getting rid of the pain but in increasing one’s capacity to be resilient to it. I honor you as a human, with many parts and crevices that showcase your authentic self. My approach is geared toward helping you feel seen, heard, and empowered; Be Here Now.

Fourteen years in the military and six years in trauma work have shown me that the brain and nervous system can naturally heal.
What was once bad memories, that you were able to suppress, have now become intrusive in your daily life. Each day feels like you're more stressed out than the day before. You find yourself easily irritable, & it's difficult to be around your loved ones. The nightmares and sleepless nights are happening more often & no one seems to understand your past. When you do get to sleep, waking up to the ringing in the ears is so unpleasant. The panic attacks feel like you are taking your last breaths. Therapy seems daunting, because the very last thing you want to do is re-live any of it, but you would give anything to feel internal peace.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
