Need help building self esteem, improving or finding a relationship, discovering meaning in your work, putting down an addiction, healing childhood trauma? I am a passionately engaged psychoanalytic psychotherapist, training analyst, Imago couples therapist, award winning writer, international conference speaker, animal and nature lover, biker, hiker, swimmer. I am also curious, non-judgmental, interactive and open-hearted. Psychotherapy can be a transformational, even life-saving experience. It leads to self-acceptance (understanding the meaning of entrenched patterns) and self-actualization (developing new ways of being). I believe that our work together will expand the possibililties for growth, healing and a richer life.

Specialization: Trauma occurs when one feels fear and helplessness at the same time.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, or alone? Does your child seem unhappy, defiant, or insecure? The moment you schedule an intake appointment, you are no longer alone. I understand that the process of beginning treatment can seem difficult, and I value the courage it takes to make that first contact call or email. I'll be right there on the other side to help you navigate the process.

I most treat those struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, women of color, GLBTQ population, and/or medical illnesses such as HIV/AIDS.
The process of beginning therapy and finding a therapist can feel overwhelming and frightening. I understand and believe those who are starting this process are truly courageous and resourceful. In my experience, I have found having a safe, contained, and trusting environment to share all of one's thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be restorative and healing. Each experience is different and some clients desire short term treatment while others wish for a more long term therapeutic relationship to achieve their goals; I look forward to exploring options and co-creating a safe and productive space with those seeking therapy.

Hello, my name is Dr. Keoshia Worthy and thank you for visiting my profile. The question that I am frequently asked is, “How do I know if I need therapy?” I like to approach that question by considering the common misconceptions and benefits of therapy. Therapy is not just for people with mental illnesses, someone grieving a loss, or someone who experienced a trauma. Therapy is for anyone, even the well-adjusted person. I believe the benefits from therapy are vast and vary from person to person. For example, therapy can reduce stress, improve relationships, and help with decision-making.

My approach to therapy is rooted in joy, and appreciation for the vibrancy of each person I treat. When stress, anxiety, depression, history of trauma, or complicated relationship or family dynamics impact our daily lives, it can be challenging to have self-compassion, find solutions, or ask for help. With consistent treatment, many clients see a decrease in severity of symptoms, improved ease in managing stressful situations, and an increase in self-esteem and quality of relationships.

In over 25 yrs of practice, it's been my pleasure to have helped many individuals and couples find a path through their challenges to a more satisfying life. Let's discuss how I can help you.

I am well trained and have years of experience working with symptoms depression, anxiety and complex trauma.
I will provide you with presence, openness and a genuine commitment to healing. If you are reading this you may be considering facing a problem in your life. This takes courage and a willingness to face something that is real and present. I have been most drawn to the view that we are shaped by our unconscious being and the decisions we make are greatly influenced by things we are not even aware of. Knowing this can help us be gentle and kind with ourselves as we approach the therapeutic process.

In therapy I aim to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself in a nonjudgmental and trauma informed space.
Sometimes it is difficult to adjust to or understand what is happening in your life and how you feel. It is often moments or seasons of change that make us feel alone, overwhelmed, hopeless, or numb to trauma and chronic stress, but these can be transformed into positive change. My main goal is to help you make sense of or minimize these feelings and identify and remove barriers to living a fulfilling life.

My clients are postcolonial, queer, subaltern, disabled, invisibilised survivors of everyday microagressions or complex trauma. Like my clients I am polycultural, multilingual, queer and attuned to queries on acculturation, multiple social identities, identity shifting, parenting minority or neuroatypical children, intercultural couples, as well as accidental, disabling or climacteric transitions. My clients want to come to terms with their complexities — those invalidated because of primary or secondary socialisation. Exploring symbolic language allows for production of new knowledge of self and self-(re)actualisation. Paris based.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
