While it takes courage to seek out therapy, it takes unimaginable strength to embark upon counseling when one has experienced trauma from intimate partner/domestic violence. Honoring the client's intrinsic strengths, I aim to provide each person with a felt sense of safety, acceptance, and compassion as they enter into the therapeutic process. My Doctor of Ministry with a concentration in spirituality uniquely qualifies me to engage in an authentic holistic therapeutic approach.
As both a social worker and theologian, I am aware that spirituality can serve as a protective factor. However, I do recognize that spirituality/religion can be a source of shame, abuse, and ultimately trauma. My inclusive approach to spirituality/religion values the client's experience which serves as a trajectory towards holistic healing.
Was it even abuse is a question I hear frequently. The insidious nature of abuse erodes a person's self of identity, worth, and self-esteem. However, together we can untangle the impact of the abuse and forge a way forward.
