At whatever stage we find ourselves in life, we are challenged by unexpected events, perceived emotional limitations, as well as trauma or fear. Even so, we have the potential to overcome these challenges and progress as authentic beings, embracing our self and our relationships.

I support Christian individuals in finding hope, healing, and wholeness while navigating life’s darkest challenges. Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a rut; I’m here to help you get unstuck. You may wonder, “Will things ever get better, or will they always be this way?” or “Why is this happening to me?” You may feel trapped in a state of depression or anxiety, not knowing how to get out. As a therapist specializing in Christian individuals, LGBT Christians, and those with complex trauma, I help you live into the fullness of who you are.

So many of us believe that we can solve our problems on your own, sometimes we can.
I accept Cigna and Aetna insurances. I offer a sliding scale fee ranging as low as $60. I wish to challenge certain stereotypes around mental health and invite anyone, regardless of their race and/or gender to reach out for psychological services if needed. I work with clients demonstrating a range of mental health concerns, including: anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, mood and personality disorders, life transitions and stress. My preference of clients is not limited to their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, but their devotion to their own mental well being.

There are friendships, school relationships, clubs, teams, jobs and ro mantic relationships.
Greetings- Working with families and individuals for over 20 years, It’s a honor to work with clients as well as meet them where they are in their personal journey. Every individual has a story, but not everyone knows how to give voice to it. Healing comes through having a safe place to tell the story, and a safe person to hear it. Each time I sit with a client, I am humbled by their courage. I hold each story as sacred, as together we purpose to find meaning, healing, and hope.

I work with people who are looking for an active therapy process that facilitates insight and inner wisdom, as well as tools and methods that empower people to manage difficult thoughts, feelings, memories, and life stressors between visits.
Imagine a world where you have the tools and know how to feel your feelings in ways that promote well-being. You experience memories, but you are able to work through them. You know and believe that you are not defined by what happened to you, by a diagnosis, or by the words of other people. You have tools to help manage your thoughts. You can pause and make conscious choices that match your values when you are having strong feelings. You can live freely and fully and do things that matter to you—even if doing so brings about strong feelings. Now, imagine that while holding lightly any beliefs about what is possible and what is not.

It's hard to get through this life without our fair share of hurts and hang ups. We often find ways to cope that work for a while, but may not be the best for us in the long run. If that sounds like you, I would be honored to work with you to find better solutions, based upon sound psychological research, that can lead to per manent change. While I work with a variety of presenting issues, I specialize in sexual addictions, trauma, relationship issues, and increasing emotional intelligence.

Whether you know it or not, there are so many things you’re doing well, and I want to help you capitalize on your strengths and identify the internal and external barriers that are keeping you from your goals.
Your personal story is unique and unlike anyone else’s. There are times your story may feel difficult for you to understand, let alone share with others. Therapy can assist with making sense of your path and help you to understand how your story affects your present and your future.

Have you done all the things you were supposed to and still find yourself feeling disconnected, anxious, and filled with self-doubt? Despite your accomplishments you don’t feel the sense of fulfillment you expected. A big life change—maybe a breakup, new job, new marriage, or move—has highlighted the fact that you’re still not as happy or content as you want to be. Something is telling you that you need to make a shift (even if you’re not quite sure what it is). You’re ready to enjoy relationships that give you a sense of belonging and understanding and to feel confident in the direction your life is headed.

With an eclectic style that includes metaphor, paradox, and a sense of play, I help you to reclaim your strength on many levels.
It has been said that a good therapist is much more gardener than mechanic. I love this statement because it captures something too often missed by counselors and clients alike: We are here not to "fix" you but to help you gently prune away the old parts of you that no longer serve. Feel the difference? Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I know that within you already is an innate capacity to heal and stretch upward if given light and a safe space to grow. So beyond giving you tools for change, my job, really, is to awaken the part of you that already knows how.

Success is defined in a number of different ways and is different to every person. However, it does not always translate to the happiness, mental wellness, or contentment that we may expect it to provide. In order to explore our own life satisfaction, we have to identify what brings that joy / fulfillment / purpose and what is standing in the way of these experiences / feelings, that may seem inaccessible for various reasons or in a certain stage of life. I like to say, "we don't know what we don't know," and gaining personal insight takes both time and intentionality. Once gained, this insight can be truly life-changing.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
